    Dog surgery

If the Vet gave your dog only a 50/50 chance of walking again after bulging disk surgery for $5000, would you do it. The other option would have your dog in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

Probably not but I would have to know the age and breed of the dog.

Sadly, how much money you have can also make a difference in this decision.

5 yr old chipoo and money wise I can afford it but with a 50/50 chance of walking again I don't know about it. With an 80% chance I would say yes.

For a coinflip I'd have a hard time paying the 5k but I adore my dog so probably take the chance.

I did it. Opted for the surgery. Odds were better than 50/50, bill was about 7k. This was before we had kids so there's that to consider.

Probably cheaper to just get another dog but money was never an issue, the dog was a family member. The discs in the 3rd, 4th,5th and 6th vertebrae dried out and they were rubbing against each other without a buffer, pinching nerves.

Went on for awhile until the pinching paralyzed the dog bc of severity. MRI showed a purple bruise so surgery was recommended within 24 hours. Not even a doubt for us.

If u elect surgery ur gonna have to teach the dog how to walk again afterwards using towels or cloths after it heals. Depending on the type of dog u also may have to restrict it to a specific part of the house to ensure minimal activity and movement during the 6-8 weeks of healing

I already have another dog, a Yorkie, and rather have a dog in a wheelchair then to replace her.

    Wait a second.

Is it 50/50 the dog may or may not walk or is it 50/50 that either the dog walks or needs to be put down?

Dogs are stupid creatures and if every single one of them were eliminated from the planet tomorrow I'd consider the planet an improved place to live.
