    Desktop Computer Problem

She is OLD... believe video card is dead

Should Sammy replace card or go 100% with newer Laptop (using now)? Got laptop connected to ext monitor, mouse & KB

Or... just buy new Desktop... Maybe even an Imac

Depends on the computer, but if old enough to not support newer OS's or limited on ram then buy a new one.

I mainly use computers for the internet and playing poker so I don't need a lot of bells and whistles.

Every couple/few years I buy a new laptop for around $250.

I bought an ASUS laptop on Amazon 6-1-15 for $239 and it's still running fine...as far as I'm concerned, I've already gotten my money's worth.

in my experience, most laptops breakdown after a few years so I just try to find cheap ones that will last 2+ years.

    good news (fingers crossed)

opened up the case... removed Video Card

used compressed air to blowout stuff

cleaned connection tabs on card with deoxit ... inserted it then removed it about 3x

left case open and hooked everything back up - WORKING (for now)

    jjgold - go to hell

I was married to desktops too Sam but finally broke down and switched to a laptop.

Bought a box from Dell that lets me plug in 3 external monitors and speakers/mouse/kb and ethernet and has a bunch of high speed USB ports. Love it at desk and can just unplug one cable and walk away with a laptop.

One surprising thing was seeing my power bill drop by a massive amount. Didn't realize just how much more electricity a desktop burns through compared to a laptop. Around $30/mth less for me.

If you don't need 3 extra monitors there is a bunch on the market a bit cheaper that allow 2.

It's pretty easy to rebuild desktop computers with all new upgraded components as long as the motherboard is good and can handle the upgrades.. Unscrew the back of the desktop and you will see every component slides in and out and mostly everything is plugged in. So easy even a caveman can do it.. ...

Laptops a different story.. I take those apart as well just because I can.. More screws on a laptop though and parts are flimsy... Can buy all cheap parts online as well, Amazon and what not..

I find youtube vids to be the best help for fixing anything.. Type in what you want to fix or up grade on youtube and there is usually a tutorial vid for what you are fixing.. Can be computers, cars, stereo equipment, home improvements, etc...

I have a home stereo system that will blow the roof off.. It's a Mitsubishi unit and the receiver keeps shutting off as soon as I turn it on.. Unfortunately there is no youtube video to fix this.. I took it apart and couldn't fix it.. There was a fuse but it's not burnt as I was hoping that was the problem....

I love this stereo, it has crazy bass and great sound that will get the walls shaking and everything in the house rattling.. Not sure I should dump the system or try to take it in to a specialist to fix it? I just don't think I can find another home unit that bumps like this one does.. Crazy thumping clear bass that I enjoy!!!

Just a story I wanted to share with you knuckle heads.. I paid over $2000.00 for this system back in the 90's new and I'm not even sure parts are available anymore... It runs on red light fiber optics cords too.

Kinda looks like this but mine is all black.. My 4 floor speakers are better, black and angled which were top of the line back then..
