I have a macbook and love it. Have no problem with it, works fast and well. Is expensive though. Dont recommend buying a cheap laptop. Many of my friends have Macbook Pro and love it too. ALso know people that have dells and sony and both are happy with it. I have always been told to stay away from toshiba. It also all depends on what your going to use it for.

4+ gigs, need windows 7 64 bit to recognize the full 4 gigs though, 32 bit maxes out at like 3.5

Honestly I hate anything over 15" but thats just me

Get something with a LED Backlight scree, its more efficient and better looking.

Use NEWEGG< you can sort with the advanced options on the left and then read all the reviews.

You can get a lot of bang for your buck in comparison to Dell with a Gateway if you are budget oriented. They are not as reliable though.

This. Sort of. Watch slickdeals (click forums-->hot deals-->sort by "system") or fatwallet, otherwise you're paying retail like a sucker. Microsoft's store and Lenovo run great deals very frequently where you can get 50%+ off the "discount" price you'll find at newegg, tiger direct, etc.
