    Loney, I want answers pal.
yeah the tv coverage is pretty mundane. Only showing a tree blowing in the wind on sky news, and tv commentators were standing outside on the balcony like it was a nice afternoon breeze! It is midnight though, complete darkness and no real coverage at the eye of the storm, so I suppose you can only judge if there is any devastation in the morning.

It's an island continent, approximately the same size as the US if you where to exclude Alaska.

Yasi has just made landfall. Roofs are being ripped from buildings already.

haiti was so bad because of primitive building structures that werent up to modern day code. stay in the basement, stay away from windows. get away from the shore/coast.

those people didnt die by getting blows away a half a mile and hitting a tree, they died from their sh*tty buildings collapsing on them.

Category 4.. Whatever. Look at the weather video of that thing, that's a big cyclone, obviously heading straight at land.

Hopefully the cops didn't fukk with anybody who wanted to stay home. That's the main concern with these 'natural' disasters

That's probably why nobody died. 99% of people followed instructions and evacuated the most dangerous areas.

Plus the same coastal town was the landfall point not too many years ago, so they all know what to do.

We were "lucky" that it took a late turn to the south.
Bad news for Mission Beach and Tully (smaller population). Good news is that it didn't hit Cairns (170,000 pax.)

Anyone who thinks this storm was whimpy and this was a beat up is deluded.
Storm surges are still happening, and the amount of rain falling inland will most likely flood coastal areas in the next few days.
I have friends in Ingham who just had the most terrifying night of their lives and they can't get back to their homes to see if it still exists.

This weather in Australia is ridiculous.

Over on the West Coast there were all kinds of warnings on the weekend - we were told we were lucky and just missed it. The rain in the valley was pretty intense.

Fortunately, QLD pulled through for the most part and the cyclone missed Carins. I thnk flooding is the next big concern... I have a few friends over there who just can't believe what that State is going through - one who moved there last year (kicking herself!).

Anyway, no deaths, its only stuff. stuff that meant a lot to some people - but its just stuff at the moment. that is something to be thankful for.

We have been trying to get rid of the influx of southerners for years
As you said, no loss of life - in fact, there were 3 babies born.
