as long as there are gangs etc, this will happen. I own a gun and it keeps my house safe, as well as I enjoy target/competition shooting. If someone comes into my house and tries something, it wont be a free pass, they will have to dodge bullets to get to me.

People who dont have guns are just jealous they dont have one. You can't have any priors (for a pistol in NY), NONE. You get one criminal offense, and they strip the gun from you (at least in NY). It's a privilege to own one and it took me a year to get my pistol permit, and in a few years I'll get my carry, and if some idiot comes up to me and asks for my wallet, he's going to watch my hand go behind my back and that will be the last thing he is alive for.

Robberies are random, no matter if you live in the best or worst part of the state. If someone breaks into your house, which happens all the time, if you are comfortable protecting yourself and your family with a baseball bat that is stored in the garage; more power to you; good luck getting to that bat or begging for your life and hope the robber leaves with just your TV and not harming anyone in your family.

they own guns illegally, giving it a bad name for those of us that legally own them. The laws exist to restrict them, problem is other countries are more loose and just like drugs, the criminals still find a way.
