I think in general the MAC is better, but you can't buy a new one for less than 1K really. I just have a dell that I got for 300 and I've had it for 4 years. Great value and awesome machine. A computer will last you a long time, if you aren't checking out porn and visiting other sites to put bad hardware on your machine. Good luck!!

As a long time windows user, and advanced computer user in general, once I got my macbook pro I know I'll never go back. Way better interface, and with boot camp now, benchmarks show that the MB pros run windows better than a PC laptop does. The Macbook pro has a better video card in it vs the macbook, also the ability to dual boot either windows or mac os X is amazing.

Also resale value is much higher on a macbook than a PC. PC's don't auto dump and clean up every time then shut down, mac os X is programmed to clean out most of the files, and paired with a program like ONYX or mac maintenance you really can't beat it. I'd even look at getting a used macbook pro off of craigslist as you most likely don't need all the new features from the new ones. Especially at the price.

I have always owned laptops, any issues where eaisily fixed. Just handed down my old Sony to my Sister. It is probably 7 years old and still works perfectly.

If I was buying new right now, I would take a hard look at the new Macbook Air.

Yeah that's true, depends on what they need to do of course. I play games a fair amount so I love the power.

Since the OP was considering a mac, I figured this was a good comparison. Apple.com has a 13 inch macbook 'starting at $1199', so same price for a much smaller screen and less than half the hardware.

To get anything close (still less ram, hd space, and worse graphics) is $2199 for a 15 inch macbook.

Honestly Apple better be paying their marketing team good lol, because their pricing is a joke.

What he said. Dont let the commercials and all the apple fan-boys fool you.

There is a reason major corporations. Major ANYTHING. Dont use apple for their production PC's.

Matter fact. Just buy a PC computer. Save that extra 2K you would spend for an equivalent mac. Take windows off and put linux on there.

If you just want a computer to fart around on the internet. Do what I recommended. If you want to keep up with the Jones'es then get the mac.

Love all the apple boys saying how the PC's run crappy. If you know what your doing, then they run smooth. They are just trying to justify paying so much for a computer. Sounds like the iPhone boys against the Androids.

Price is the only difference between Mac and PC. Period.

Yet they have a "Genius Bar" to help you with any problem you might have. No product is perfect. Damn. Even a pet rock can break.

Are you trying telling us Apple makes all of the parts of a laptop? Hard drive, motherboard, screen and so on?

no sir, but there r not 1000's of different configurations trying to run asus/other motherboards 100's of different components and windows which were not specifically made together. Mac uses a few configs to run OSX beautifully. do u think they are more stable and/or need less work/maintenance to keep them exactly how u want them. i do not enjoy fixing my puter, downloading fixes, i just want it to do what it is supposed to do for a long time. go buy a HP if u think they will last longer.

i spend many many hours behind the screen so a few hundo to enjoy working in a stable, intuitive environment is worth it. whats that $0.05 an hour? fine.

but u r right - open office is free. bless the peeps who made it - big time.

i am sure mercedes makes engines with the same capacity that kia makers use. buy a KIA...

No need to use it anymore because of OpenOffice. Plus most of the web based email companies have free software included. My brother did invoices for his business in Gmail and I do the same for my stepfathers. I used Quickbooks for mine.

Mercedes and KIA is not Mac and PC. Even if Mac was the Mercedes of computers there are many other brands out there, so there is no reason to go with the Kia.

And I had to laugh readying this post because I'm posting from my HP laptop. A Mac was going to be a lot more then a few hundred when I bought this computer about 3-4 years ago for my business. I didn't have a few hundred extra at the time because I started a second business much sooner (or later depending on how you look at it) then I should have. Even if I did have it I would not have spent it on a Mac. Its not for me. Some others love them some own them and hate them. Its the same with PC's.

My next laptop might be an HP again. My desktop is a Sony. I have been happy with that as well. Its replacement might be an HP. I will see whats available when ever I decide to replace it.

I think of them as a Honda. A lot of people have blind faith in them. Its not that they are bad products but its just another product. Some will buy them thinking they will never have a problem. In my business I was at more then a few dealers. Honda had a larger repair shop then GM did.

For cars I say buy the one you don't mind fixing because they all break. I don't like having to repair anything but I would rather pay to repair a Range Rover then a Kia.

As for computers I would rather repair a PC then a Mac.

One thing I have noticed is that I know quite a few people who used to be Windows users but have since switched to Mac, and now swear by Mac (I am one of them). I don't know anyone who used to be a Mac user, switched to Windows, and now swears by Windows. I'm sure there are some people like that, though.

Mac users love to make this claim but most have no idea why a Mac is less likely to get a virus and it has nothing to do with being a superior product, they can and do get viruses.
