Join Hexversi Tourney #7 by Aug 8th. Win up to 2500+ Pts. SPECIAL section for Newbies

There are 3 different ways for you to win 500 Points or MORE.

    #1
. Win the most games(not %) in this Tourney out of anyone on SBR besides myself. blankoblanco won this in the last Tourney with 10 total wins.

    #1A.
In this Tourney there will be a SPECIAL for Newbies(anyone besides DanielEspinosa, blankoblanco, Ian, gauchojake, and jackpot269 will qualify) to win 500 points. If none of the Newbies win a game, I will give 500 points to the Newbie that came closest to winning a COMPLETED game. If any of your opponents should timeout(this is not uncommon in the 1st Round) you will still be credited for the win. There were no newbies in the last Tourney, but jackpot269 won this in the Tourney before the last one with 0 Wins. Yes, you read that correctly. Because he was the only newbie to join the Tourney, and because he played at least 1 COMPLETED game, he automatically Won the 500 points, even though he went winless. I must say though, he was in a VERY tough Section.

#2. Section Winner Prediction Picks. I will explain this more thoroughly once the Tourney starts. If you tie or beat me, it's worth 1000 points. But if you don't tie or beat me, it's only worth 500 points. jackpot269 and DanielEspinosa
tied for this in the last Tourney, but they did not beat me, so they split 500 points. And the Tourney before the last one, blankoblanco got the full 1000 points.

#3. Tourney Winner Prediction. jackpot269 got this one right in the last Tourney and Won the 500 points. My only rule is, you can't pick me as I will be picking myself. There are now several very strong and well known Othello players in the Othello community that join and play in these Tournaments, including at least 2 that are the #1 Ranked Othello players from their country. So, I am no longer the favorite in these Tournaments anymore.

Also, if anyone on SBR should WIN the Tourney you will Win 3000 points. And if you pick yourself to Win the Tourney AND you Win the Tourney... I'll give you 5000 Points(I may need to make installments on this).

For new players, to create an account you will need to send itsyourturn.com an email to websupport@itsyourturn.com and tell them that you want to create an account. You can tell them Holden2341 is organizing another Hexversi Tournament and you want to join it. They should get back to you fairly quickly. Please use your SBR name as your username at IYT.

Once you have an account and username created, to sign up for the Tourney, go to Tournament area and click on August 2022 Open Fast #1 Tournament by Monday, August 8th. Find Hexversi and check the box and click submit down below. And you'll be good to go.

For newbies, or anyone else, you can practice on this CPU in this link below.

    http://meta-site.net/hexlo/?fbclid=I...xXgSGPufKWHqTE

OR you can practice on the app below.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...xagonalreversi

Also, starting on page 5 in this thread in the link below, I start giving "Lessons" on strategy tips. I'm sure most of it will sound rather confusing if you are brand new to the game. But, if you play enough games on the CPU and you want to learn some strategy, I recommend reading the Lessons in the link below from pages 5 and on. There's a few on page 4 I think as well, but from page 5 and on it's mostly lessons. (Edit: I am just realizing now, if you start on page 5, there is a lot of lingo that I use, much of that I made up specific for Hexversi and some of it is Othello lingo. Your best bet is to start at post #117 on page 4, I THINK that is the first lesson. If you start from the first lesson I go over the lingo a bit I THINK. Anyway, if anyone has any questions about the lingo, like WTF does this mean? Let me know.)

    https://www.sportsbookreview.com/for...ewbies-p5.html

I am requesting that everyone that joins this Tourney to give me 1 point in this post. This is simply so I can keep track of who has joined.

The Tournament will start on Tuesday, August 9th. I am hoping for at least 50 players to sign up. I haven't done any recruiting yet on IYT or on Facebook but I will do that over the next few days or so.

Hexversi is a very simple game that ANYONE can learn in a couple of minutes or less. I recommend watching the minute and a half Othello(same rules) instructional video below if you want to know ALL the rules. If anyone has any questions, let me know in this thread.

    Good luck!

Thanks for doing this yet again John!

I'm feeling pretty stuck as far as taking my game to the next level where I can beat players of your caliber, besides a few flukes... but I suppose I will keep trying for now. Although I may retire soon if I don't see myself gaining any ground

No problem. I've taken long breaks from Hexversi myself over the years. And if you ever call it quits, it's been fun teaching you and Daniel how to play.... since you both came in at the same time at the first SBR Tourney... and you've both been great students!

36 players signed up so far! There's still time to sign up! Can we make to to 40? Will you be joining us in this one DanielEspinosa?

If any Newbies are considering joining, try a few games vs this PCU in the link below. Here's a few simple strategy tips. Try to keep your pieces INSIDE of your opponents pieces. Don't worry about piece count AT ALL. Less is more. Move count is what counts, NOT piece count. Our goal is to run our opponent out of moves/options, this is how games are won. Avoid playing the hexes in Red(X-hexes) in the image below for as long as you can. If your opponent offers you a corner, TAKE IT! Once you get a corner, work FROM the corner.

Remember, EVERYTHING we do is about MOVE COUNT(the MORE options you have the BETTER), NOT piece count. Once you get a corner, THEN you can slowly start thinking about piece count. Let me know if you have ANY questions.

    http://meta-site.net/hexlo/?fbclid=I...xXgSGPufKWHqTE

Edit... This PCU isn't too terrible actually. I think a newbie would have a pretty hard time with it. So, don't feel bad if you can't beat it. It plays pretty aggressively but it plays it well. If you can beat it, I think you could beat maybe 50% of the players in the Tournament? Let me know your results!

Tonight's the first time I've been messing around with this really, more than a game or 2 that is. The guy that created it is MrTopom, I met him on Facebook. I started a game with him a few months back but we never finished it. I'm not sure how good he is. I think he's going to do some more work on this program in the future. I'm pretty sure he's going to be in the Tournament.

That actually sounds about right, haha. You had me slightly worried that I might not even beat it if I played quickly (I'm used to considering many of my moves for longer of course, never played any OTB rapid games or anything), so it's nice to know my first instinct still beats a "random good moves" bot

Ive played it about 30 times probably won 12 to 14 I cant get used to not being able to back out of a play. I like making a play looking at it, and changing it before I submit if I want too!! Then the AI plays so fast Im not sure what exactly happened sometimes. The AI defiantly plays to break up your chips if you have a line of them!!

I swear Scott Sitar actually outplays me in the early game like every time, in every tournament game I've ever faced him! It's crazy. And it's surely why I've had a ton of close games against him. I hope I can make it through again this time...

Ha, thanks guys! I just wish my early game could be more consistent, but I'm not sure what to pinpoint. Sometimes it goes great and then sometimes I end up looking at the board like "how the fk did I get myself into this situation"

Good luck blanko! I hope to see you in the Finals!

Also... I posted a another Hexversi Puzzle yesterday that can be found here:

But nobody has made any guesses yet.

Hah, Ryan just challenged me on Ladder while we're already in the same group in the tournament. Hmm, almost as if he's trying to scout my play to figure out my weaknesses? Or add a distraction??

We were already playing 2 games against each other at the same time, did it really need to be 3?? I'm half-joking, but I can't help but be curious about the motivation!

I was waiting on Las8 but I think he's got some stuff going on right now. Initially I was going to make the same picks as blanko, but ethmah looked really good against my brother and he's pretty active at the Othello Academy Discord, so this should mix things up a bit in the point standings as we all have slightly different picks.

    My picks for Round 2:

    1. ethmah01
    2.
    blankoblanco
    3.
    Holden2341

I just looked up your record vs Ryan. You're 3-2 not counting time-outs. I was thinking you had played him more times than that. If you start beating him bad in just one of the games, he might time-out in all of them. I've noticed he sort of does this type of thing. Plus, he's got maitreg to deal with. I'll be fairly surprised if he makes it through this round without timing out, unless he plays REALLY well.
