Under the game status tab there is a tab, new game open it and you can select auto game or game i think in the 2nd option scroll down to hexversi and there is usually someone waiting!! ive never used the auto but it says it the best way

sorry the 2 option are auto match or waiting room under the new game tab

Yeah, for the Ladder you have to wait 2 weeks before you can play the same player again. But you guys can play private games or matches against each other if you want to. Once you are on each others User Profile near the bottom of the screen you will see "Invite this user to play a game" and then just find Hexversi and you can make it a 2 game Match if you want. Once the other player accepts the invitation the game will start. The difference in the Ladder is, the invitations don't have to be accepted. Once you challenge a player, the game automatically starts.

Let me know if you have any questions about the site. The site is not great. It also sucks as a non-member that you only get 15 moves per day. I'm hoping that maybe someday eOthello will pick up this game.

I just noticed you've got a couple of legit Ladder Wins now. Congrats! 100 points paid post #34. You played fairly well in your game vs tc.

If you are interested in improving, two things I recommend is if you are playing a player in the Ladder, you can look at some of my old games when I played that player and just rip through it really quickly and see what to expect. The reason why I recommend this is because my style of play is fairly simple/boring for the most part. And it's VERY effective against aggressive players. So, when you are a brand new player, the first thing you want to do is just to learn how to beat the aggressive players because they are the easiest to beat. And then from there you can learn how to play the sides and start building a little bit of confidence. Most new players to me, I can only describe it like, it seems like they are always trying to do too much. So, if you rip through a few of my games, I think it should help you get a feel for my style of play, especially against aggressive players. Here's a link to my last 100 Ladder Wins.

    https://www.itsyourturn.com/pp?compl...tn=2&wl=0&st=0

And here's a link to the other thread where I'm doing lessons on Jackpot's moves. It starts on page #4 on post #108 and there's a few on that page and there's quite a few on page 5. I think you said you might have already looked at some of them. Once you start to learn how to read the board better, these lessons will make more sense. I'll start doing some on your games as well in the same thread.

    https://www.sportsbookreview.com/for...ewbies-p4.html

Here's a tip I was going to tell you, once you get a corner, if you can... try to work FROM the corner. What I mean is... let's say you get K6 below. Now that you have that corner, if you have a move at either j7 or k5, that's where you want to move next. And you just keep doing that 1 at a time. So you move to k5, then k4, then k3. You don't want to gobble up all your pieces at once. You want to do it 1 at a time. We cherish our moves. We don't want to use up all of our moves at once. So, once you get a corner, if you have moves where you can work FROM your corner, it's usually a good idea to do so. Because the pieces you are getting are permanent and you're almost never creating any good new moves for your opponent. This is our objective. Any time we are creating new moves for our opponent, it's usually not a very good thing, especially if they are good moves. Sometimes you may have good moves elsewhere, but it's usually only a good move if you are not creating any new moves for your opponent. So, once you a get a corner, your best moves are ALMOST ALWAYS the hexes that are closest to the corner that you just got. Because with these moves, you're usually not creating any new moves for your opponent. Make sense?

I think my green game against RCCH is quite interesting if you want to give it a look John. I think I was in a bad spot in the mid-game but now I think there might be a way back in, depending on what he plays I guess!

I'm winning our other game so it should be a 5-1 tie in the group at worst

Yeah, I've been watching that game. RCCH sent me a message a few days ago with the assumption that you guys were going to split your games. I don't think he should be counting his chickens like that. It looks like it's going to be close! And like you said, 5-1 at worst. Mario and I split our games, you probably noticed. I'm still playing out the game where he's going to beat me.

Yeah RCCH and myself chatted a bit earlier on and agreed going 1-1 in the games seemed likely. But I actually think I've got him now. He made a couple moves I was surprised by and definitely felt were mistakes. Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer! (And hopefully that doesn't come back to bite me now)

Yep, you guys seem to split a lot. You really schooled him in that green game though, it's rare to win so quickly against a player of mario's caliber

Thanks for the tips John and the points as well! After playing your brother a couple times and Ryan I see what you mean about cherishing our moves. They both had me pinned mid game to where I was lucky to have two moves. They were really dictating my play. I told Ryan he's good and you are the one who introduced me to this game. He gave you his praise saying you beat him a lot. If you see the games jackpot and I have played so far we have split 2-2 while green has been 4-0. AlleyH told me that purple is the one who usually has the advantage so I found that odd. He is willing to give me purple on these games so I hope to beat him one of these days. Looking back on that tc game I am disappointed he gave up but I could have gotten that corner way earlier than I did after he played that X hex. Thanks again.

No problem. Yeah, Ryan is a good player, my brother is a good player as well. For newer players I don't think the color is going to make much of a difference. For me personally, I prefer to be Purple because Purple gets to go second. My openings tend to be better when I am Purple, this is the main reason why I like Purple because I often get outplayed early on when I am Green. Although in my recent game with Mario I outplayed him pretty bad early on when I was Green. But this is very rare against a good player like Mario. Another reason why I prefer Purple over Green is, if it's a really close game and nobody has to skip a turn, Purple will get the last move of the game, which means more points. Getting the last move in a pocket is HUGE. I'll teach you guys about the pockets once you get a little more experience.

Either I'm off my game right now or Toptal really came to play this tournament. He has me dead to rights in 1 game, and I'm pretty unsure about how the other will shake out. Just hoping I can tie him

Sadly we had 2 time-outs in our group. I think I was in pretty good shape to win 1 of my games vs Ivan but it was still early and my assessment could be off

I just noticed that first post today, I hadn't checked this thread in a few days. Yeah, your Section is really brutal! Congrats on the win vs Ivan Gutorov! That's huge! I definitely like your chances in that one game vs Toptal. Hopefully Ivan and Toptal will split their games in case Ivan beats you in your other game. shimgar really had a cake walk in this 2nd Round. I think even my brother would have probably won that Section. Hopefully shimgar will be a bit rusty for the Finals at least.

Thanks for the Mario congrats. In the game where I was Purple I made a couple of moves where I was really kicking myself over. The first one was move #8. I think I probably should have played i5 instead. That one wasn't so bad I suppose but I think he probably could have burned me on it if he would have played some things differently. But the one that I REALLY regretted was #28. I wish I had played c4(just left of where I played) instead. I wasn't sure if I could still win after that move. I feel like I got really lucky in that game with those mistakes. Now I just have to get by Ryan. One of our games is really close, the other one I feel pretty good about so far.

Two SBR players in the Finals would be AWESOME! You got this!

Sorry man, for the 3rd time (3 out of the last 4 tournaments I think) it appears I will be paaaainfully close to the finals and miss out. I think the exception to that has generally been when I faced you and you demolished me 2x so it wasn't close, lol

The above includes an exact tie vs mario and a game vs shimgar that he himself thought I was going to win based on the chat between us. Rough. But I have nobody to blame but myself, I could have played better

GL in the finals, John, and don't play scared against shimgar! He has his weaknesses. I think you can use your experience in this specific format against him. He knows regular Reversi damn well, but think of the Hexversi board as your homefield advantage. Win it for SBR

p.s. this is my 3000th post on SBR! I really wished I could save it for celebrating a big win, but oh well. Such is life

Well boys, Round 3(likely the Final Round unless there is a Tie) has started. The Section Winners for Round #2 are as seen below. Mario timed out his games vs Ryan, otherwise I think he probably would have swept him. Blanko missed the Finals by a hair.

This Round is worth 3 Points. It's unlikely that you will catch me unless it goes to another Round so, the 1000 points prize is likely off the table. But between the 2 of you, you're battling for 500 points. 100 point bonus if you can predict the EXACT order we will finish(this could also be used as a tie-breaker if you want). I will go by IYT finish order so... if there is a tie... alphabetical counts.

blankoblanco Won for most games won with 10. 500 points paid to post #52 Congrats! You played great this Tourney! shimgar had a cake walk into the Finals. I was really annoyed to see you get thrown into a tough Section like that, especially with Shimgar having the 3 worst players in his Section. I don't think I've ever seen you in an easy Section. DanielEspinosa get's thrown to the wolves a lot as well. I'll do my best to take these guys down!

Try to get your picks in by Thursday, July 21st. This will be worth 500 Points for the prediction points. And Jackpot can win an additional 500 if Shimgar wins because that was his pick for Tourney Champion. If you both pick the same player as Tourney Champ, I can go by correct order as a tie-breaker. OR, whoever picks 2nd can pick a different player as Champion, it's up to you guys.

Ivan Gutorov's got me beat in one game for sure and probably both. I've got a corner in both of my games vs shimgar but these games are extremely tricky. I feel decent in one of them but not so much in the other one. But these are very tricky, so it's hard for me to tell right now. If I get lucky enough and sweep him, it will go to another round, assuming Ivan sweeps me. But, I'm not holding my breath on sweeping Shimgar. I'm pretty disappointed in my play vs Ivan. I hate getting swept by players.

Yeah, the games looked pretty interesting to me just glancing at them, but too complex for me to say anything for sure without being immersed in it myself. Keep fighting the good fight! Also being the first to beat shimgar in a tournament game would be a nice accomplishment in itself

Well boys... I choked in the Finals yet again. I definitely think shimgar is beatable... by all of us. We just haven't done it YET. I had him on the run in my games... but he found a way out. I surely made some mistakes. I did manage to recover in one of my games vs Ivan at least.

500 Points paid to Jackpot to post #14 for picking the correct Tournament Champion. Congrats!

Since Daniel and Jackpot tied for the Prediction Points with 9, but you both had less than me, I will split the 500 point prize to 250 points each. Points paid to posts #46 and #47. And blanko already Won most games won with 10. Points paid to post #52.

I'm planning on organizing the next Hexversi Tournament for next Tuesday August 9th. I'll start a new thread within the next few days or so. And I'll try to keep posting Lessons in this thread:

If anyone has any requests for "Lessons", feel free to let me know.

Also, I stopped posting my Hexversi Daily Challenges on Facebook and I am now posting them at the Othello Academy Discord. Mario created a separate channel for Hexversi. This is where I post my HDC's. I am hoping to attract more Othello players this way. Here is the link to join the Othello Academy server main page.

    http://https://discord.me/othelloacademy

And here's the link to the Hexversi channel where I post my daily puzzles.

You'll have to create an account and username through the first link. It's been a while since I went through it, so I'm not positive if I will be able to answer your questions or not. But I think Las8 has already joined so, if any of you other guys are interested, he might be able to help you out if you are interested.

As far as the daily puzzles go, some of them are fairly complex so, don't feel bad if you don't get them right. And as of right now, the people playing the puzzles are, shimgar, Ivan Gutorov, mmariomm, and ethmah01. So, all of these guys are REALLY good. I try to explain the answers the next day, the best that I can. But if you have any questions... feel free to ask.

Good try, John. That's a killer finals line-up if I've ever seen one

Maybe shimgar will take one of these tournaments off to give the rest of us a chance

Buddy, you had me dead to rights in the current game we are playing. Move #19 I only had two possible moves and both would have given you the SW corner. You got to dictate where I move next. I have been in a similar situation every time I play blanco which is extremely frustrating. If you get a chance look at the few times I have played him. He runs down my possible moves then he makes me go where he wants. The last few game against me you have controlled the early game. It just seems like you make a silly mistake such as giving me that east corner in the aforementioned game. Don't get down on yourself. I feel like you have been winning the early game every time we play you just need to eliminate the brain farts.

Thanks buddy, I feel like I play well early too, its those two outer rings I cant figure out, side play and getting the conners!
The more I play, I should start seeing the same mistakes!! There is a point in almost all our games I see the board has completely turned in your favor. Im also going to look back at those moves you were talking about!

Yes, that is a good idea. I would look at one of the games I played again blanco. I will post the link below. You can see by move #19 I have no good moves so where blanco goes I have to follow. He plays me right into the corner which he easily gets. You had the same situation in the game we played. I am not good in the early games as when I play against good players such as blanco, Andy had me once, and a couple against alleyH I have lost by the time move #20 happens. I have felt that way against you a couple games I feel you just need to think about how your move effect my moves at that point. Like I said don't get down on yourself. Your early game is very strong just need to eliminate the mistakes.
