Would the standard belt have fit him?

That arm brace thing did not fit properly o er his shoulders and that's pretty clear.

Look, he's probably 6-3" + and 325 pounds with a 50" waist....the ride simply isn't designed with that customer in mind.

There is no such thing as 'one size fits all' when it comes to safety & health. He simply shouldn't have been allowed to ride....his size being a societal outlier.

Operators fukked up letting him on

Kid didn’t realize he wasn’t strapped in quite obviously. How? I don’t know, but that doesn’t matter

Sending people up like that and not making sure they are good to go? Unreal

Every coaster/whatever I’ve been on it’s like an airplane, if your belts and shit aren’t tight, they will sit there until they see you are obeying the safety rules…otherwise the plane doesn’t take off or you get thrown off

Kid was fat, supersized it one to many times.

Didn't keep his fat ass on the seat and slid right off. He should have never gotten on those rides. When you are that fat and heavy I could see you slipping right out of your seat even when strapped in.

I was a tall kid that road all the rides in my teens and I was always afraid I'd hit my head on the sharp roller coaster passes. I'd dip my head everytime.

Rides are sketchy. I'm out today. Thrill for kids though. Better be normal sized though is what I'm getting at. Those coaster seats aren't built for obese or really tall or really small people. I could see how you could fall out.

Every airplane and every amusement ride that I have ever ridden you have to be locked and loaded.

    Click-It or adios.

The protocol was not in force and an innocent kid is no longer with us.

Same from my experience and what I have seen

It’s to the point they will

    A. Will not run the ride/let the plane take off

    B. Throw you off and tell security to escort you out of the park or plane

    C. Planes they just make you show your belt is tight (or act like it) - but every ride I’ve been on has been physically checked

Him being fat wasn't the reason that he died. He didn't get strapped in properly. I've ridden 100's of roller coasters over the years with fat people, and never seen anyone get launched out of their car.

If ANYONE would slide out of a ride like that, it would(or should) be skinny people.

Maybe, but that was a downward gravity ride, the obese kid that weighed a ton had momentum and just slid right out as the ride was slowing to a stop. That's the way I saw it.

Fat kid slid right out of the seat and harness. Could have been strapped in tight we don't know for sure? That kid was probably weighing in at 300 pounds plus and probably had a flat ass. Slid right out on his lower back rolls.

No. Him being 100 pounds heavier than the guy next to him wasn't the reason why.

Do you think that he was the heaviest person to ever ride that thing?

Well, it's been a good minute since I've been to any kind of amusement parks, but I always thought the proper protocol for safety precautions (regardless of kids height and weight) is for one of the supervisors or ride attendants to come around and make sure that all seat belts are clicked in and the shoulder harness firmly locked in place for each and every person on the ride...were these precautions and preventive measures taken?...

If he was too fat and tall to be restrained properly, then the people working the ride should have told him so and asked him to get off of it.

kind of like what I mentioned in my post...if these preventive measures weren't taken before the ride started then I see a HUGE wrongful death lawsuit due to negligence coming up!...

Some of you guys are jumping the gun a tad. Typically on a harness ride there isn't a seat belt. For example Cedar Point's old ride called "The Iron Dragon" was one of the first original "harness rides" over the shoulder without a seat belt. The harness is designed to engage and LOCK down regardless of the weight and/or chest size of the individual. Once the harness is in the down position it locks by compression and hydraulics. It doesn't need to fully come all the way down but it must be tight to your chest as close as possible. You can only conclude that it either failed..... or that kid didn't pull it tight enough towards his chest.

Great photo Kermit. Clearly the harness is designed to come all the way down and lock your legs from moving too. The force of the ride literally shot him through that small opening. Or the harness failed and popped open on the descend. That harness... even though it doesn't look locked.... shouldn't move upwards while the ride is in operation based on the hydraulics.

I don't know about you guys.... but I'd be holding for dear life like the guy on the far left. Hold the damn handles.

Someone did the math on Reddit

there’s a formula for shit like this we learned a long time ago and mostly forgot

but using that formula it was close to 2.2 tons of force when he hit the concrete

it’s interesting cuz the “wigger” looking attendant

seemed to be nonchalant about his job

which can be easy to do as hundreds of rides go smooth and usually

human beings have a hard time of thinking horrible things will happen

until it directly happens to them or happens right in front of them
Operator error or not , liability will fall on the Company , not the employee.

The kid was to fat in the midsection for it to lock down. The handlers should never have let him on this ride to begin with. Bottom line!

If the employees had told the kid he was too big to ride, they would have been accused of fat-shaming and every activist would have used social media to tell the world who they are, where they live, etc.

It's an awful tragedy, but the underlying cause of it occurring is because the kid was severely oversized. He was too young to fully process in time the fact that he wasn't completely secured in. Didn't speak up perhaps because he didn't want to bring attention to himself in front of his friends and others on the ride waiting to go up. Worker was a complete moron, obviously, and clearly didn't do his final run through to check that everyone was secured properly. But we can't act like if he was of normal size this would have happened the same way. How could it have? The harness literally would not close because of the kid's size...the worker didn't complete his job, but the only way that thing doesn't fasten normally is if it legitimately can't...and it couldnt...because the person it was trying to fasten simply wouldn't allow it.
