Top 500 albums of the 70's

These lists happen all the time.

My local Louisville Public Media aka LPM , 91.9 WFPK has their fall donor/membership drive this week, and they're counting down Top 500 albums of the 70's voted by the listeners.

    It concludes around 6pm(est) today.

Currently on, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here at #24

edit: #23 is Simon and Garfunkel , Bridge Over Troubled Water.

#22 is George Harrison, All Things Must Pass

#20 Steely Dan - Aja [ I voted this as one of my top 5]

#18 Van Morrison - Moondance [ I've never understood the luv for Van Morrison. So many other albums in this Top 500 that i'd chosen over Van.]

    #17 Joni Mitchell - Blue

#16 The Eagles - Hotel California [people should've left this off their voting list out of spite. I mean when I was a kid this album was cool, and even as a teen. But damn, I'm so burned out of this album.]

#15 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young -Déjà Vu

#14 Stevie Wonder- Songs in the Key of Life

#13 Bob Dylan- Blood On The Tracks

#12 The Rolling Stones- Exile On Main St.

#11 The Rolling Stones- Sticky Fingers

#10 The Beatles- Let It Be

#9 The Clash- London Calling [had this in my Top 5]

    #8 The Who- Who's Next

#7 Elton John- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

#6 Marvin Gaye- What's Going On

#5 Bruce Springsteen- Born To Run

#4 Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin IV

They been updating the list in that link all day. They on #4 now. Led Zeppelin IV

I've also been updating my original post.

They have an app in the stores. LPM aka Louisville Public Media. It's amazing how many people apparently listen to the app all over the Country, and the World. They'll read off messages from donors and it'll be someone saying they listen in Spain, Netherlands, Russia, etc. etc. Same for the States: It'll be people from all over the Country saying they listen to the app.

Now is it just studio albums or live. On my Ipod and itunes i have so many albums and songs but take me back to 1978 i had 4 albums,So for me it would be 1 Kiss Alive ,2 Kiss Alive 2,3 Frampton Comes Alive,4.Boston First Album.5 Wings over America.I will change it if it is just studio albums. Also The Who were weird, There Stage show were loud and bombastic with the Guitar smashing ect but there studio albums were nothing like that they were very subdued.

I would be willing to wager Led Zeppelin IV finishes in the top two.

I think it's whatever the listeners voted. We were sent emails to list our 5. I guess it could be live albums as well.

I think my mom had that album at one time. Not my kind of music, but I can understand while she was so popular. I don't think she should be #3 or even top 10. But that's what's fun about polls/voting, especially regionally for one specific local public radio station. lol

I'm sure he was in there. But I don't think it was played today. I think when it resumed at 6am this morning they were at #61 - so he's been before that.

Great list! I'll go with 37,28,360,108,146. What a decade for music. All I did was listen to music and go to concerts, and I still only managed to crack the surface of all the greatness that was around. Enjoy the list boys!

70s easily best decade for music i would download at least 200 of those albums if i had the Money. Being A Kiss fan of course i need Kiss Albums higher plus i would switch Kiss debut album way ahead of Destroyer. I will just focus on a couple. Van Halen debut album has to be top 10 so i would substitute VH For Marvin Gaye, Kiss Alive would be in Top 10 replacing Carole King. Kiss is not for everyone so that one you could argue this is just my opinion but the list is outstanding almost impossible to make with such outstanding music to choose from.Great job.
