Looking into getting a new one.
Wow! The prices have really jumped over past 3-4 years since I last looked, or really paid attention.
Used to be a 42inch average riding lawn mower was around 1200-1400. Everything I'm seeing is easily 1500-2000 - and that's if I can find one.
Both Walmarts by me are out of all 42in. The Lowes only has zero turn ones in the 4000+ range. Said they didn't know when more stock was coming.
HD was out of all riding lawn mowers from 38in up to 50in. They had a 30in and then it was all zero turn commercial style one's all easily over 3000.
Another thing I've noticed looking into riding lawn mowers, is that apparently MTD owns the brands and/or is licensed to manufacture, and makes pretty much all the standard riding lawn mowers.
Stopped by a local tractor place that sells mostly John Deere and all they had was expensive commercial walk-behinds and zero turn.
Any lawn mower/yard tractor experts on here that know anything about production costs vs factory markup vs wholesale vs retail?
I'm curious how much it costs MTD - or any of the manufactures - to make an average lawn mower and how much is markup - and how much a local business or big box stores get mowers for vs their selling price.
