Anyone ever taken Melatonin long term for sleeping?

I've had some insomnia recently. A friend recommended liquid Melatonin. I take 1 ml every night before bed and in 30-45 mins I am out like a light. I've been taking it every night for a few weeks and feel great. Best sleep of my life. Does anyone know if it's okay to take it long term?

I take 5 ** every night and fall asleep after 30 min. Sometimes I watch baseball after taking it to fall asleep faster.

    Ambien is KING.
I've tried Melatonin and other natural sleep remedies and nothing works.
To answer your question there are no long term dangers with Melatonin.

Melatonin is a sleep hormone. Supplementing any hormone can be problematic because the body will decrease it naturally to try to return to homeostasis. Is it some huge deal no but people should know what is happening when the take it.

except for one major problem with ambien...it becomes habit forming!.......not only that, but your body adjusts to it after a while and then it starts to make you hyperactive and/or restless (you can't fall asleep and stay awake all night)

A glass of warm milk and a shot of whiskey does the trick very well!.......nothing wrong with old school methods...still very effective!...

For me the best was trazodone {generic for Desyrel }. You need a prescription from your doctor. It put me under within a half hour and the sleep was deep. However the body develops a tolerance after a while. Non habit forming.
Can't say that for Ambien. Very effective at first and quickly becomes habit forming and I had some internal organ issues that were very unpleasant. That experiment lasted about three weeks. I can't express fully how dangerous the drug Ambien can be.
I used melatonin for a couple of years when I worked a Midnight to eight shift. It was very effective. However after a while my body began to recheck melatonin and I would throw up every time I tried to use it. I haven't touched that stuff in years.

Def get enough of that. As for Ambien, I took it once upon a time many years and ago and didn't fall asleep and had major hallucinations and went out all night doing all kinds of crazy shit and I don't really remember any of it, just heard about it from some friends. Won't be taking that again.

I would use a 30 day cycle . Alter-selter PM is effective. As was tylenol P.M. But long term liver issues can be a result. As for melatonin I used 1/2 to 1 ml doses time release. Melatonin is one of the better choices if you have to use anything. My doctor issued me one drug where after a week was hooked on the stuff. I felt as if I was about to die after two weeks. It took a few months after I stopped using it to feel semi normal again. I would go to the gym and exhaust myself sometimes also. That works. If possible I would use the melatonin every other day.

my dad tried melatonin. it worked some nights, other times it did not. he had to get to the source of his "issue" in order to get back to normal sleeping patterns.

There has been only one study on the long term effects of Melatonin. Research showed males experience about a 2-3 inch lose in pecker size.

Tried melatonin (15mg) just didn’t work after about 30 days. On unisom now. 1 pill. So far so good after 90+ days. Literally fall asleep after about 15 mins and get a full 8 hour sleep.

Quit caffeine and don't look at a screen for 2 hours before bed. You'll sleep better doing that and you won't have to worry about long term effects of taking a drug/hormone.

Take it from a guy who makes a living at looking at eight CRT's a day for eight hours a day, looking at screens all day is not beneficial to dropping off to sleep.

Doctors say get outside, fresh air and sunshine is very helpful.

I took it a few times and it gave me a deeper sleep but they say taking it to long will take away your natural ability to produce melatonin.

Drink warm turmeric milk before bed. And a piece of string cheese. A snack and the milk knock me out. Turn off electronics an hour before bed including TV.

Melatonin helped me stay asleep once i got there, but my main problem has always been falling asleep. Alcohol helps.

I know I was just joking around in my above post.

I wake up every 2 hours every night. Dry throat, I get uncomfortable and need to shift and turn over, get up to take a piss, get up to drink water, etc.. I wake up then go back to sleep every 2 hours every single night. I've been doing that for years now and it sucks.

I still get my 8 hours of sleep though but that wake up go back to sleep crap 4 times a night gets annoying. I don't wake up feeling fatigued in the morning though so I'm good.

I guess you can say I have a sleeping disorder like some of you guys.

    Used to take Traz.
Had to stop, the after effects were brutal.
