Join the next Hexversi tourney and win up to 1500 points!

I am hoping that most of you guys in the saloon have at least some idea of what Hexversi is. If you don't you can visit this thread https://www.sportsbookreview.com/for...-giveaway.html and watch the 90 second video in post 1 and you will know how to play. It's not complicated. It's a very simple game that anyone can learn how to play really quickly. The only difference between Othello and Hexversi is the board.

In order to win the first 500 points you have to have the most wins of anyone from SBR besides myself. In the first tourney we had 4 guys from SBR other than myself that joined and we had a 500 point winner in DanielEspinosa. Daniel had never played Hexversi before to my knowledge. Moral of the story is, even if this is your first time playing you could still win the 500 points. In the last tourney, there were at least a couple of guys from SBR who had opponents time-out there games. This means they didn't move in time so they lost. You'll have at least a day to move on every single move but if your opponent times out it won't be held against you. Those wins will still count. How I do in the tourney is irreverent in winning the first 500 points. In the first round you will mostly likely be playing 6 games. The person other than myself from SBR that wins the most games will win 500 points. As long as at least 1 person from SBR wins at least 1 game there will be a 500 point winner. Last time there were several people that won at least 1 game.

    Other ways to win points.
Once the tournament starts(on Tuesday the 14th) I will ask everyone for their division pick winners for the first round. If you click on any of the players names you can look at all their stats. This can help you make your predictions. I will give a couple of days for everyone to make their picks. Once everyone has their division pick winners in I will chose mine as well. As long as your pick advances to the next round your pick counts. Each pick in the first round will be worth 1 point. 2nd round 2 points, 3rd 3 points etc. If the person with the most overall prediction points has a score at least as high as mine by the end of the tourney they will win 500 points. I get to make my predictions last but the tie will go to you. Therefore, if all I do is copy someones picks I will still lose.

Another way to win 500 points.
Once the tournament starts I will make my prediction to who I think will win the tournament. Most likely I will pick myself but that's not guaranteed. Once a pick is selected it can't be chosen again. If your pick wins the tourney you win 500 points. I'm expecting around 50 or so total people to be in this tourney not counting those from SBR. There will be lots of inexperienced players I think. But I've also already got a couple of confirmations from some strong players that I know are capable of beating me.

So, how do you join? Go to http://itsyourturn.com and create a username. It's free. I prefer if you use the same name you have on SBR. It's simple and should take less than a minute. Then go to the top of the page and click on "sign-up" or Tournament Area. Then click on the July 2020 Open Fast #1 tournament. Then find Hexversi and check the box. Then click submit down below.

I am asking everyone that joins to give 1 token to this post. This is simply so I can keep track of who's playing. If anyone has any questions let me know. Good luck!

The tourney starts on Tuesday the 14th. You have to sign up by the 13th. I forgot to mention... the games won't be live. You just move when it's your turn. Usually a move or two a day. More than likely you will be playing 6 games at once. The player that wins the most games in your division goes to he next round. To win 500 points you just have to win more games than anyone else from SBR not counting myself. Last tme, there were a few people from SBR that won games because there opponent didn't move in time. So... even if you are terrible there's a chance you could still win the 500 if your opponents don't move in time.

Well, you can't really practice Hexversi in real time but you can practice Othello in real time. The theory is the same so if you can get good at Othello you will be good at Hexversi.

You can play here https://www.mathsisfun.com/games/reversi.html Click on the X near the middle of the board. You are Red. You can play a whole game in a few minutes. If you are struggling... I can give you some tips.

Excellent! DanielEspinosa just learned how to play Hexversi a few months ago and he nearly beat me in a game. I'm not unbeatable by any means. Because of the abstract nature of the game big upsets aren't entirely uncommon.

No problem. I love turning people on to Hexversi because you never know who's going to become a master. It would be really fun to see 2 or more people from SBR in the finals/Championship division of a tournament.

I must say, so far I am little bit disappointed with the turnout for this upcoming tourney. There are only 30 people signed up so far. I'm nearly certain that DanielEspinosa has signed up so... that's 3 from SBR not counting myself.

I tell you what I'm going to do... if any of you guys that have already signed up can recruit 1 one person I will increase any prizes that you may win from 500 points to 750 points. If you can recruit 2 or more people I will double your prizes from 500 to 1000. Just let me know who it was that you recruited and I'll increase your prizes amount accordingly if you should win.

We still got 2 days to recruit new players... I would love to see at least 5 people from SBR in this tourney. Let's make it happen!

    Im in obv.

Well I dont know anyone here, but if sign up and say you come from my part, I will give you 250 points if I have the most wins from SBR on the tournament (if 3 or more people join, I will only give away 500 points in total). My only condition would be that you can not timeout during the tournament (you can just click buttons randomly the whole tournament if you want. That would not be ideal but I would still pay).

Last day to join boys! The tourney starts tomorrow! There are 33 players in the tourney so far... I'd love to try to get that number to at least 40.

This might be the easiest 500 points to win on SBR... even if you've never played before there are multiple ways to win 500 points. Sign up now if you've got the balls! You've got nothing to lose!

    Yes I think so.

Kinda dissapointing only 3 people joined. Its kinda weird since people join JJGold raffles every day and prizes are similar. Next time that might be a better idea, a simple raffle between people who join.

Yeah, I probably need to think of a better way to recruit people. I was thinking of starting this thread in the main forum but then I figured there would be 50 posts of different jackasses typing SALOON THIS SHIT!

To answer post #14... yeah I just go by the check mark to make sure you are signed up. You could always hit submit again if you wanted.

I don't think there is anyway of telling who will be in the tourney before it starts. I'm most curious as to which strong players will be in it. I don't think my nephew is going to be in this one. I invited this guy named Roel from a different site where I play 10x10. He mops the floor with me in 10x10. I'm 1-6 against him. But I'm not great at 10x10 nor 8x8. The other site llttlegolem is pretty cool because they give you a rating. Roel is the 2nd highest rated player at the site in both 8x8 and 10x10. He's rated higher than Toptal in both of these. The best players at Little Golem are stronger than the best players at itsyourturn in my opinion. Unfortunately they don't have Hexversi there. If Roel joins this tourney he could really shake things up. I'm 2-1 against him in Hexversi but I could tell that he's good as hell. Hopefully none of you guys will get stuck in the first round with me and Roel.... lol.....

Tomorrow once the tournament starts if you want a chance to win 500 points you can predict the division winners. If you don't know who is good or bad you can click on a players name and look at there stats. Usually you can tell a player is good if they've won a bunch of Reversi related tournaments. This will be the first thing you see before you see their stats. As long as your player advances to the 2nd round your prediction will count even if there is a tie. Each correct pick in the first round will be worth 1 point each. I ask that you have all your division winner predictions in before Thursday July 16th. At that time I will give my division winner predictions as well. Each round of the tourney will be in accordance with the point number. There will likely be 3 rounds, the 3rd round being the finals and worth 3 points.

For the person who has the most points from their predictions by the end of the tournament will win 500 points if they have more prediction points than me. In the event of a tie... you will win the tie-breaker meaning that I have to beat you and I can't just copy your picks. But you guys can copy each others picks if you choose to do so.

Also.. for another chance to win 500 points you can predict the overall Tournament Winner. Once a pick is taken for the Tournament Winner it can't be chosen again. If your pick is correct you win 500 points.

I'll make my pick right now. This pick can't be taken again.

    I am picking Holden2341

    Good luck!

Here's a few simple strategy tips that could help you new players enormously.

#1 Forget about the score. It's merely an illusion until very late in most games. If you think you are winning because your score is higher than your opponents.... it's likely you are getting taken to school.

I have a fairly simple strategy that I play by in most games. Think of the pieces like an island and water. With my style of play I like to be the island. I want my opponent to be the water. I like to be on the inside of my opponents pieces. Now you may think that it's good to have a big island... in most cases the exact opposite is true. You're much better off being a small island.

You can click on most of my games at any given time and you can usually tell if I am winning simply based on if I'm the island or the water. If I am the island.. it usually means I'm winning.

Also.. if anyone want some serious Hexversi strategy tips I recommend checking out this thread https://www.sportsbookreview.com/for...veaway-p6.html I think I start doing the challenges at post #177 on page 6.

If you want to practice regular Othello in real time vs CPU you can play here: https://www.mathsisfun.com/games/reversi.html

Just click on X near the middle of the board and start. You're Red. The same theory works in Hexversi.

There are 9 different divisions/sections. Please post your division winner predictions before Thursday the 16th. And post your overall Tournament Winner as well. For the overall tournament winner, once a pick is taken it can't be selected again. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. Good luck!

Indeed. I think you can definitely compete with Toptal if you play your sides correctly and you make Toptal pay for his subtle mistakes on the sides. Keep a lookout for Totptal going for the Closed 2s. He goes for the Closed 2's far more often than he should in my opinion and almost nobody makes him pay for these subtle mistakes. Most of the time you can turn these Closed 2 attempts into an unbalanced edge if you are patient.

If you can beat Toptal just 1 game... I think your chances of making it to the next round are pretty good. dmoresco is no slouch either... this division is going to be fun to watch!

Try this a game... try to keep your pieces inside of your opponents pieces for the majority of the game. Try to flip only 1 or 2 pieces on every move while keeping your pieces inside of your opponents.

Othello and Hexversi are marathons. You have to pace yourself. I get the majority of my pieces very late in most games. If you can maintain fewer pieces than your opponent for the majority of the game and keep your pieces inside of your opponents you should be able to easily beat the program at the hardest level assuming you are playing here https://www.mathsisfun.com/games/reversi.html

Hexversi and Othello are games of options. The piece count is not important for the majority of the game. It's Option count that you want to be concerned with. If you keep your pieces inside of your opponents you should almost always have more options than your opponents. Just be sure that you don't lose all of your pieces... but keeping fewer pieces is usually helpful for the majority of most games.

Also... try not to give up any corners. Getting a corner his HUGE!

Let me know if this works for you vs the CPU.

Since you guys already got your picks in I'll post mine as well.

    1. FGYTPeti
    2. jook
    3. Holden2341*
    4. Toptal
(Sorry blanko, I hope you prove me wrong!)
    5. Bernard
    6. maitreg
    7. DanielEspinosa
    8. Oscar Sarok
    9. urantian

Initially I had the same picks(nice picks!) as Daniel but I didn't want it to be a tie that way after the 1st round. My dark horse pick is maitreg. Although I think Ryan is a better player but I remember Ryan playing sort of sloppy in a game a few months back. And then I looked at maitreg's last tournament games vs FGY in a game he won he was being thoroughly outplayed by FGY and FGY made a mistake and he capitalized and won the game. So.. I thought that was pretty scrappy. I think he might be able to pull a win vs Ryan but I doubt he will sweep him unless Ryan times out.

I'm particularly interested in the following Sections:

    Section #1
We've got The Burglar. He's won over 60 Reversi tournaments. All of them with less than 30 people but it's damn impressive. I played him a couple of games in Hexversi nearly 3 years ago and I remember playing really well in both games because I thought he might beat me. So... I think he's seen my best stuff. He hasn't played since then. Just those 2 games is all he's played. He could be a dark horse in this tourney. Anyone that's won that many Reversi tourneys understands the theory well.

Then we have FGYTPeti. This guy is a beast. He scares me a bit because I know he's capable of beating me and I haven't played him for more than 2 years. The short time he played in Reversi tourney's back in the early 2000's he kicked ass. He won three tournaments with over 100 people. Check this out.

November 2002 Open Main #2 Tournament Reversi 103
    August 2002 Main #2 Tournament Reversi 159
August 2002 Main #2 Tournament Reversi Blackhole 44

    Section #4.

Probably the overall toughest division in the tournament so far. We've got Toptal who's won multiple Hexversi tournaments over the years. 28 Hexversi tournaments alone I believe. Check out this guys stats sometime. It's pretty amazing. Then we have blanko, if Hexversi players had nicknames I think I would call him The Prodigy. He's on a 22-0 record breaking run for most consecutive wins in a row before a loss after joining the Hexversi Ladder. Breaking the previous record by yours truly of 18. And then we have dmoresco who made it to the finals in the last tournament that had 20 more people than this one. This division is stacked! Toptal is the clear favorite here but I don't think he'll have an easy time with blanko and I think dmoresco could make things interesting as well. This one will be fun to watch to sure!

    Section 5.
I think SnazzyD could give Bernard a run here even though Bernard has won 6 small Hexversi tourneys over the years.. I have no idea who SnazzyD is but I saw them in the Reversi ladder so I told them about the tournament. I checked their record and they've completed 1 Reversi game and that's it. They won against a fairly strong player but it's really hard for me to judge how good they will be just based on that one game of Othello. But I did like their style for sure. SnazzyD could be a sleeper in this tourney!

    Section #6.
Probably the 2nd toughest division. We have maitreg who's won multiple Reversi related tournaments over the years including one with 114 people in the year 2000. This is before people could get good from the programs. The programs were lousy back then. He also won a small Hexversi tourney with 11 people in 2008.

As impressive as that is, Ryan has to be the favorite here. Aside from Toptal and myself... almost nobody beats him in the Hexversi Ladder. He's won 6 small Hexversi tournaments with less than 15 people over the years as well. I'm really hoping Ryan doesn't timeout in these games. These games should be fun!

We're 5 days in and there will definitely be a winner for the first 500 points as Daniel has already won 2 games as seen below.

His opponent timed-out their games but Daniel will not be punished for that as it was not his fault. This is fortunate for Daniel I suppose... but what is unfortunate for him is he got stuck in a small division which means he's got less opportunity to pick up wins. But his chances of making it to the next round should theoretically increase. He's got 2 close and interesting games going on with Hugolin. Another win for Daniel and he secures a spot in the next round.

blanko has a rough division but if he can pick up 2 or 3 wins it might be enough to tie and force a playoff game, or even possibly win the first 500 points outright if he can win at least 3 games and if Daniel loses his 2 remaining games.

housemoney is brand new to this game but he's got a fairly easy division. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he picks up 2 to 3 wins here.

This looks like it could be close!
