    Covid 19–Snapshot 7/4/20 – Trump-Virus is Still Kicking Florida’s Red Ass

I swear it’s like watching a fatal accident all in slow-motion; Florida, standing in the middle of the road as an out-of-control semi barrels down, its horn blowing loud and clear, while Floridians just smile and nod, as Ron DeSantis keeps chanting: “Nothing to worry about. Get back to work. Nothing to worry about. Get back to work….”

Accounting for more than 1/3rd of America’s new Trump-Virus cases for the past two weeks, Florida’s “reopening” has been, hands down, the most recklessly stupid of all 50 states. However, what is most amazing has been the response of Florida’s media, which is to obediently parrot the DeSantis line, and never, ever ask the most obvious and hard questions. It’s as if stupidity and corruption have become as infectious as the Trump-Virus.

I have an "obvious and hard question": How many of the diagnoses have actual symptoms? Of the ones that have symptoms, how many are more than what one would experience with the garden-variety flu or cold? And Willy, I'm not asking that to be a dick to you but I truly do wish that little tidbit was included in these numbers. You are right--the numbers don't lie, but the numbers most certainly don't tell the entire story.

Being neither an MD nor epidemiologist, your questions are hard for me to answer; however, speaking of Florida, it’s impossible to say how many positive diagnoses have been asymptomatic. Florida was one of the few states that, until this past week, reported active and recovered cases in one total every day to the CDC. This was contrary to CDC’s guidelines, but DeSantis liked the way it tamped down Florida’s death rate, so he persisted, until Florida became the last state to not report “Covid 19 positive-recoveries” as a separate number, and reluctantly began doing so. There has also been anecdotal – ie. unverifiable – reports that due to the enormous number of private lab diagnoses done in Florida, not all nursing-home deaths have been reported as Covid 19 deaths – when they, in fact, were. The only Covid 19 deaths Florida reports are those who died after being hospitalized, and hospitals are statutorily required to do so. About the severity of symptoms, relative to “the garden-variety flu or cold”, I only know what I’ve read; namely, that it is more severe, persists longer, there is no vaccine, and, of course, it’s non-seasonal.

The blue counties voted for Hillary in 2016 and are the home to 60% of the COVID-19 cases in Florida.

I noticed that the entire chart of all the "Southern States" added together have less dead people than just New York. Let's see how long it takes for them to catch up. If we are all sitting here on August 1st and all you can complain about is cases and not dead, you will have to re-evaluate the states that are doing this better than other states.

Could it be possible that the southern states end up with less death and more herd immunity come October? It certainly looks like that is possible. When it does the northern states will have to take notice. I would say the media would too but they won't they will just move on to some other panic porn.

Kid, I do requests, upon request. True Mason Dixon line is Interstate 80. "Southern States" refers to The Southern Plan, a subject for a later thread. For the record, I believe 99.9% of people Everywhere in the World(Rank & File) are good, would never intentionally harm anyone. But they didn't make policy, like, separate but equal /Jim Crow. LAW in the South , for oh so long. In the North, same bullshit, but it was custom, not the LAW. MAGA geared towards this devious, Southern Plan& Them Old Testament Christians., Well, There were no Christians in the Old Testament. Doubt few even read the New Testament. ALL religion is bullshit, anyway. Remember lynching, A Right until 1965. .0000000001% is what I refer too, or The Mindset Of The Hierarchy. Shit, missed Race6 at Belmont.

it is disappointing that more people are able to survive the virus because over the months doctors have become more effective at fighting it. medical professionals have learned what medication helps and what doesn't.

we need strong leadership that lets these people die that end up in the ICU from careless behavior. the beds need to be reserved for the people that took proper precaution but got it from work or the grocery store. let the beach crowd and bar hoppers die.

I'm sure population density and major international points of entry for travel and shipments of goods, up in the northeast for the early days of not knowing much about the virus, have absolutely no baring on amount of deaths.

The following are the most densely populated cities with populations exceeding 50,000:

    Union City, N.J.: 54,138 persons/sq. mile
    West New York, N.J.: 52,815 persons/sq. mile
    Hoboken, N.J.: 42,484 persons/sq. mile
    New York, N.Y.: 28,211 persons/sq. mile
    Passaic, N.J.: 22,424 persons/sq. mile

    NYC 28,211
    Philly 11,692
    Boston 13,943
    Rochester 5,838
    Yonkers 11,150
    Newark 11,648
    Jersey City 17,860

And even throwing in some other big cities up north in the rust belt
    Chi 11,883
    Columbus OH 3,960
    Detroit 4,849
    Milwaukee 6,191
    Minny 7,664
    Cleveland 4,965
    Pitt 5,484
    St Paul 5,818
    Cincy 3,834
    Toledo 3,452
    Madison 3,289
    Aurora IL 4,475
    Akron 3,186
    Grand rapids 4,424

On flip side for Tex and Flor are
    Houston 3,842
    SA 3,238
    Dallas 3,870
    Austin 3,182
    Ft Worth 2,513
    El Paso 2,676

For Florida, only 2 over 200k pop with over a 10k density are...
    Miami 12,645
    Hialeah 11,020

Rest of Flor decent sized cities ...
    Jax 1,179
    Tampa 3,326
    Orl 2,707
    St Pete 4,227
    Tallahassee 1,904
    Port St Lucie 1,625

Now when you start getting under the 180k pop you can find some Flor cities with decent density, but same as you can still find northern cities.
    Like.....
    Ft Laudedale 5,141
    and
    Providence RI 9,740

Are you population density shaming the south?

So the south doesn't get any props for spacing out themselves in a responsible manner.

In fact, the HIV and Cancer survival numbers are pretty “fducking” amazing compared to just a few years ago - all down to early diagnostic testing protocols and advances in treatment . Nothing “weird” about it.

That 1.9% death rate only reflects what the total deaths were yesterday. You need to give the 57,000 recently infected a few weeks to die – then, maybe, we can talk MLB.

That's amazing. Some weird, wild stuff right there. It's almost like no plausible way that all of those counties could be some of the densest populated counties in Florida, plus still had 35-40% of Trump voters, many of whom probably listen to people like Matt Gaetz. And that has somehow contributed to most of the states cases. I mean, no way possible, right.
