We are supposed to count those as physicians, but we always take them out and announce the count to a presiding nurse who is responsible for the final count. Well, not sure what happened, but the nurse gave us the correct count, but it was obviously incorrect. Quit blaming the nurse you lard for miscounting the sponges, YOU are the one that left TWO sponges in the patient regardless of the nurses supposed mistake. So when I read that a patient died post-operatively from infection, and YOU left sponges in said patient, you killed that patient. You were negligent 100%, not the nurse.
