Officials with the Wake County Sheriff’s office tell CBS North Carolina a woman was accidentally shot in the head on the N.C. State Fair Grounds Saturday morning.
Emergency workers and law enforcement were called to the scene around 10:15 a.m. Sheriff Donnie Harrison said that a husband, who has a concealed carry permit bought a gun for his wife at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show taking place on the fairgrounds.
After his purchase, he returned to his car and handed the new gun and a loaded gun to a back seat passenger.
The loaded gun accidentally fired hitting the wife who was in the front seat. The wife was taken to Wake Med. The extent of her injuries is unknown.
“She was alive and talking when she left the scene,” said Harrison. “It looked like it might have hit the seat rest so that could have stopped some of the impact.”
Deputies are investigating, Sheriff Harrison said the shooting appears to be accidental. “Anytime you mess with firearms, be careful,” he said.
