Food is our specialty. You really can't go wrong, you'll find some good food just about everywhere. I recommend a few, commanders palace, nola, port of call, mandina's, brennan's, central grocery ( muffulettas ), pat o' briens ( hurricanes ), drago's, cafe du monde ( beignets ). Just make sure you get some seafood gumbo, eat a po-boy to keep it simple.

Go to the French Quarter, French Market, Jackson Square, Burbon St. Stay along the tourists routes at night with well lite streets. Take a ride on the street cars around the city, also a riverboat down the Mississippi River. Take a ride across the worlds longest bridge over water ( Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge ). Many things to see it all depends on your preference.

Gamble at Harrah's Casino, they have some good poker games on the weekends. Take a trip to the Fairgrounds and bet some horses.

Sad part is around the Burbon St. area the streets are normally trashy with an occasional hint of urine from all the late night to early morning partying. We have lots of homeless people and criminals on the streets just use common sense and be safe.

Nice run down, thanks SYM! Had about half of those places on my list but I'll look into the others.

I'd highly recommend Nola and Cochon if you don't mind spending a buck or two.

This is a solid run down of the gumbo pot, acme oyster house is good to... Start with the boo fries, good stuff and go for a ride on the Natchez steam boat.

Just got back yesterday from a 5 day trip.

Check out Muriel's in Jackson Square for a great meal. Also, Commander's palace. If you are into cheaper meals, Coop's place was good.

What are you into? We took a gator boat tour which was good.

Make sure to visit Penthouse the strip club on Bourbon St. It's the best strip club in the South. Remember, do not pay to get in for $10, $15,$20. There's always a homeless guy sitting next to their entrance, ask him if he got any passes to get in, and give him $5. Don't let the security know about it, if they know then the homeless guy can't no longer stay in front of their entrance.

let me give you some specifics....

    go to Drago's (at the base of the Hilton across the street from Harrah's -- or the original out in Metarie) and get the charbroiled oysters on the half shell;

for raw oysters, go to Felix's on bourbon, or the acme oyster house across the street from it... make your own cocktail sauce with half a little container (they provide em), two lemon slices squeezed into it, and a decent sized pinch of horse radish, mix it up.... dunk oysters in the sauce, put oyster on cracker, chow, wash it down with an ice cold beer

get a muffelata at Central Grocery down by the produce market, further down the street from Cafe Du Monde, which happens also to be a place to grab some famous beignets...

If you want upscale dining, go to Gailitoire's on bourbon... had the best sauted softshell crab I've ever had in my life there.... don't worry about not having a dinner jacket, they have a whole rack of em there to provide one for you....

any Emeril restaurant is good, as well.... Palace Cafe on Canal has awesome food as well...

go to Napoleon House in the quarter for some great po boys.... roast beef po boy will be one of the best you ever had... get em "dressed" always..... bit of history from the place, in addition to being the house that Napoleon was going to be secreted to had he escaped France; it's also a place where some films in the movie JFK were filmed.... I was there during some of those times.... got to meet the jerk Costner.... that was the first of my two run ins with the guy

Cash games at Harrah's are a mix, soft ass drunk tourists and seasoned regulars.... u can usually tell which is which in your first five mins at the table...

you want a really wild sexual experience, go to Colette's on Camp St., I think.... if you're going without a date, i think they let single males in on Fridays.... One guy once invited me and my wife, to whip his bitch, who was tied up in a room that was more like an observation theatre, as it had windows all around it for people to watch.... single male nights probably suck, as no one really wants to deal with single males; sat nights are when the shit is off the chain....

You can use me as an excuse.... tell her I said the "people watching" alone would be worth the admission price. Plenty of fun to be had in the quarter for sure, but if you get a wild hair and want to see how that shit goes down, it'd be fun for you.... Despite the reputation of swingers, most are very respectful of others in the so called lifestyle....

I'll put it to you this way, the crowd of single jerkoff males on bourbon st after 11 pm each night will be 100x times less respectful to both you and your wife.... first few times I ever went to such a club in Htown, we met some people but didn't do shit; only very few are "pushy" types....

funny story, about the guy that wanted my babe to whip his woman he had tied up; he was in his leather chaps and acting what they call "Dom", as in dominance, and his woman was his "sub", ie, submissive or slave.... So, this jackleg is acting all "in control" and "dominating" the scene, and he looks at me and my wife, and signals us to approach, and you could tell in his mannerism it was more like he was "ordering" us to get over there and whip his wife..... A small crowd got to witness him lose his mojo when my booming voice belted out, "No, I don't think so...." He kind of lost his "aire" of the big bad dom at that point.... (plus, he was smaller in stature, and shrank even a little more in that instance), as the on lookers waited for something from him that just never materialized....

ps... one slot tip at harrah's, if they still have it... play the dolly parton video slots (fancier machine where she's singing and u pick the music, console with built in seat type machine).... I've played it three times at Harrah's N.O., each time I cashed out a multi-hundred payout on a c-note jammed in it..... Played most expensive spin (like 3.75/spin), then backed it down to the next highest credit level the subsequent times..... fck'er pays! don't fuk around with any $20's or low credit spins, jam a hundred in it and only bet max or next level beneath max credits..... if i recall, it's down from the poker room, to your right as you walk out of the poker room (which, unless they've closed it in, is more of a poker "area", and not a separate room at all).....

    have fun!
