Only $0.08 Out Of Every $1 Actually Goes To "Main Purpose" For The Red Cross?

I understand there are a lot of Non profit organizations out there. Only 8% of your yearly revenue actually goes for the people in need??? The rest goes to payroll and other expenses? Unreal. Sick.

I hope this story is false.

A lot of charities are like that money, why I prefer giving to someone in need on my own efforts, I know it will ALL go to the individual in need.

That's not enough to wipe out all the money they get.

I read that the NFL Pink merchandise only gives 8.1% to cancer research.

The charity run by the Clintons has raised $2 billion since it was founded in 2001 -- $144.3 million in 2013 alone -- but only a small fraction of the take went to its “life-saving work,” according to analysts who monitor non-profits.

    Here's an example ...

They do have good ones, but research them and find out. Don't just blindly give and not know where your money is going.

A few years back I remember reading about some charity that raised $24,000 for something in Hawaii and they presented whoever was getting the money with a check for $100.

Good for you. The only charities I donate to are dedicated to animal sanctuaries, wildlife, the environment and population control.

The last thing the world needs are organizations determined to keep the teeming masses alive longer than nature intended.

"The Red Cross, under the Liberty Fund, collected $564 million in donations after 9/11. Months after the event, the Red Cross had distributed only $154 million."

"After the devastating San Francisco earthquake in 1989, the Red Cross passed on only $10 million of the $50 million that had been raised, and banked the rest.

"Similar donations after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the Red River flooding in 1997 were also greedily withheld."

It's just one of those things that I never sat back and calculated. The percentage is sickening low.

It could be. Unreal if it is... crazy loopholes in non-profit organizations in the USA. I now see why people form them.

I was glancing at an earlier FB post. Someone did the research on the top 6 non profit organizations that only paid out under 10% of revenue "to the actual cause". The Red Cross was listed at 8%. It was rather low and shocking. I never really gave it any thought until today.

I remember watching a topic on CBS 60 Minutes about this "individual" who opened a non profit organization... about cancer research and it produced numerous donations. His salary was 12 million a year. 2nd highest employee was at around 3 million a year and the 3rd employee was at around 1 million a year. I can't remember the exact name of his organization. But I remember the reporter hammering him on his salary. The leader of the organization was actually a doctor.

It just goes to show... you're better off creating a non profit and even though you are "rigging it"... you are staying within US Law.

These organisations need to be honest and call them corporate charities because that's what they really are.

She hasn't been president in 10+ years.

The 8 cent # is also inaccurate.

Guys get this. "Some one I know" works at a place where people donate cars on behalf of a charity. We sell the cars for the charity and take a fee doing so and give them back the rest of the sale money. They then use a majority of this money to pay for salary and a small amount for the actual charity. These charitys are sneaky big buisness, better sell you own shit and donate 100% of the proceeds directly than use these scammers
