I read post 1. The court ordered her to attend sessions. The lady prayed. She did not make the mom pray. All she had to do was sit there. The court imposed their will and made her sit there. She must of really loved her children.

    From the article

Pepper frequently handed Salzman religious tracts and gave Salzman a “homework” assignment, to write an essay titled “Who is God to me?”
A court appointed counselor, who will determine whether a mom is fit or not to get partial custody of her kids, was going to grade an assignment of a non believer caller "Who is God to me?"

    Give me a break.

As stated - how much the mom loves (or doesn't love) her kids is irrelevant to the actual point.

You guys think religion is why people believe in everything. Maybe it is the person who believes and it just so happens that religions give people of the same morals a place to gather.

nobody said that, zert, but religious people are taught morals from the bible, so religion And their elders are why they believe in most everything... religious people are never taught about the cruelty of god in the bible...it cant be explained by the church, so its simply never discussed...

most everyone, who is religious, is Religious when talking about god and religion...with that in mind, NO group is more immoral than those who want others to think they are religious .. i hope you can understand that

Or maybe it is because Christians dominate society and impose their beliefs on others.

Try explaining where Sharia Law comes from. Try explaining where Blue Laws came from. Try explaining away Prohibition. Try explaining why Chrisitans across America are complaining that the US is becoming too "secular" because their cherished laws are being overturned because their majority has shrunk.

    Seriously

For someone who is all for unity & keeping it the same, I'd have to ask 'why were you OK with them changing the pledge in 1954?"
Jay... I know a lot of Catholics. All the ones I know keep to themselves... and pray in peace and private. If someone is running their mouth about religion 24/7 they aren't from a Catholic background.

Most North American Catholics would be called "poor catholics" or not "real Christians" by most others of the Christian religion.

Church on Sunday booze on Monday might have something to do with it.

I went K-12 Catholic Private Schooling. Baptized Catholic myself. When I went to some of my friend's homes... I felt comfortable. No one was ever preaching religion... or anything like that. Sh#$... we were taught religion almost every class in one form or another. I hope no one would preach 24/7 lol. Sometimes I wonder what my life would of been like without private schooling? Like... if I just went to a public school?

Is life just the luck of the draw? When you are born into something... you just accept it. I never had that "feeling" to go to a public school. But being at the private school... wasn't just about the teaching of God. You were disciplined if you acted out of line. You were taught morals. Etc.

Just like the comment about drinking on Sunday's etc... a couple of my friend's dads were drunks. I could tell.... but... people will be people. My uncles were drunks. They were Catholic. Probably drinking because their wives gave them headaches all the time? lol

I haven't been to Mass (church) in about 20 years+. I enjoyed going to the church I grew up in... and... I never wanted to go to another Church. It's just the way I do things. Now, it's been so long... maybe I'm scared to go back? I feel like I failed in a way. So why go back? Maybe it was my destiny to go earlier in life and not later on??? We can question everything in life.

My point is... Catholics really don't cram religion down anyone's throat. The only thing I remember going to a friends house.... we said a prayer before we had dinner. But talking about Jesus... every minute??? Every hour?? Every day?? No... we didn't do that.

I'm just an easy going guy.... If someone doesn't like religion... that's fine. I have a lot of friends who aren't religious. I don't think differently of someone because of this. Like I said... if someone is a likable person... I don't change my mind liking them because of a choice in their lives.

We are all fighting a battle in one way or another in life. Fighting over if their is a God or not??? Or Higher power? Black white... tan... whatever.... it's not important. What is important... is doing your best for someone in need.

    I agree with TMS but......
Do you really need a bullshit religion to tell you to do the right thing & help someone in need?
Do you really need an outdated book to tell you that you shouldn't kill people or steal?

Uh, yeah! Look around my friend. Don't know how it is in Canada, but here, people wouldn't spit on you if you
were on fire. Turn on the news and see the atrocities man instills upon each other is sickening.

Those that aren't taught morals, have none.

this isn't a religion problem. This is a bloated, liberal government doing what they do best. This isn't a rare case, it just happened to have religion involved this time. You have the parents who were threatened to have their kids taken from them because they let their kids walk to school alone this year, the parents who let their kids play in their OWN yard for more than hour who got "in trouble" and the examples are added every month.

This is what a bloated, liberal government does; takes your money and spends it on nonsense like this.

When Jayvegas makes a comment like that, it just really shows that some dont understand. You are right though I dont need a ****religion to tell me what is right and wrong. I go to to church every week for other reasons. As far as the outdated book comment you are entitled to an opinion.

Best cuisines are from Catholic countries: France, Italy, Spain
Hottest chicks from Catholic countries: Italian, South American
Catholics make the best gangsters: Capone & a million other guineas, Pablo Escobar, all Irish mobs ever
Jesus right hand man (Peter) was first pope - in Rome.
Catholicism is to walk the walk, not talk the talk - that's the healthiest message - ie, don't knock on your neighbor's door and tell them they're going to hell - ever.
Fred & Barry can go get married - but not in our church, thanks.

Yup. Too many bible thumpers claim to adhere to the good book, but their actions reflect otherwise. They behave a lot more like the pharisees in the New Testament than like Jesus. Judge not? Hardly. Render to Caesar what is Caesar's? Definitely not. Easier for a rich man to go to heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle? Pshhhhhh.... And some of the ridiculous things that they cling to like quotes about homosexuality are sandwiched between laws against blending fabrics, shaving the hair above one's temples and not eating shellfish or certain kids of other fish. I would like to see a bible thumper go to a fish fry and tell everyone there that they are going to hell because the bible says you cannot eat fish without scales.

One of my favorite religious sayings is "Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary use words." (St. Francis) I honestly don't think it makes a difference if you believe about Mary or the saints or transubstantiation, but I do think that hypocrisy should be met with swift rebuke, and that no one should get an exemption from that, not even Catholics.

24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”

How have I forced my (your word) socialist view(s) on anyone (including you Josh?).

Had this been Ann-Arbour and the counselor insisted on muslim prayers during councelling - I'm sure you folks would absolutely still defend this COURT APPOINTED person to bring her superstition and make embracing it part of regaining custody of kids.

When I support a hike in taxes to fix public bridges or pave the same roads you use (something that can be changed through votes/plebiscites etc) , is that really the same to to you as putting a woman at a choice between entertaining some voodoo mumblings and homework assignments in order to keep her children?

Actually when you voice your religious beliefs you are forcing your socialist beliefs on others. That is by necessity. They are one and the same. Just not many believe that crap anymore. Only the stuff that is going to get them more.
