    I just cancelled Direct TV

I didnt really want to cancel, but I called asking for reductions in my price and for the first time they were not cooperative at all. I told them that storms were taking out my satellite signal frequently, and that I was increasingly not watching TV as often (since everything is streamed nowadays over the net). I thought they would cave and give me my package for about $65 a month. I'm paying $82. They said they most they could offer me was $5 off a month. They said I was already receiving as many credits as possible. So I could have stayed for about 76, but instead left over $11 a month. You might ask what is $11? Well its nothing. Its just the principle of paying for a bunch of channels that I never watch.

So I'm going to try the netflix thing and streaming sports online and see what happens. They did offer me the free NFL Sunday Ticket but I said no. Wasnt worth it enough to me.

I been thinking that if you have high speed internet, still having direct tv or cable is worthless. Literally anything can be streamed. I found myself the last two weeks watching PGA sunday afternoon on TV, storm comes thru and takes out my signal, and I have to go to my computer to watch it. So I'm just done with DirecTV. I had been a customer of theirs since 2007, but they obviously didnt care to cut me loose.

So buyer beware if you think you can haggle them. I used to do that for years knowing they'd never cancel me, but i think since their merger they dont care.

You'll miss sat. quickly going that route. You don't wanna watch stuff everyday on a computer. Netflix sucks, you'll get bored quick. If they were already giving you tons of credits don't think it was worth it to leave over 11 bucks.

I have a VGA cable that hooks up my computer to the TV, so anything I am watching on computer I can put on my 32 inch screen. I also have chromecast that does the same thing. I also have a PS3 that stream Netflix and Amazon prime directly to my tv.

I'm thinking the only thing I will miss about not having a satellite TV is the dvr for sports. If you are streaming sports, you basically have to watch it live as it is happening. I'll see how it goes. If I don't like it I'll go back to direct tv and all the great deals they give new customers while stiffing their current ones.

I think I'm the only person that DirecTV would never work with. I tried to cancel MLB package once on opening day and they refused. Said I had to do it before opening day. They wouldn't budge. Those fukks never did anything for me. I was with them for years and usually paid around $300 a month because I had every fukkin channel and sports package. They even reported me to a collection agency over their own screwup. Said I never sent my receiver back when I cancelled even tho I did send it back. Fukk them. They give discounts and shit to everyone I have ever talked to. Wouldn't do shit for me.

I've been done with Directv. This year will be first without DTV and my beloved NCAAF season. I'll have to come up with something to watch the games. Another thread here has guys doing the amazon fire-thing but jail breaking it. we will see, but if anybody has suggestions i'd appreciate it.

I cancelled directv months ago, Amazon FireTV is the most economical way to go for any diehard sports fan:

    Directv - $100+/month
    Amazon FireTv - $0.00/month

Get the online SLing TV, as you get ESPN & ESPN 2 and with a $5 package, you can get an additional sports package. Also, with your Sling TV credentials, you can use the watchESPN app too.

ROKU 3 = Cheap - then sling tv 19.99 thru your roku gets ya tbs / tnt /espn / espn and like 10 other channels that are all good - Roku has alot of free channels but I use Plex - its a channel on roku and it streams anything from any computer on your tv (better than chromecast cause roku can have a hard line internet for streaming and not wireless)

also if you know someone with cable willing to let u use their user name and password you can get tons of other channels thru roku for just signing in thru xfinity / direct tv (theres hundreds of cable company options) and it doesnt interfere with the persons cable. Its great if you got a kid in college that can log in to your account and watch the tv.

When I lived in Orlando, I got one of those digital antennas from Target for about $15 and picked up 25 free channels. 10 of them were in spanish but whatever. Then the neighbor didn't have a password on her wireless internet so was able to stream whatever I wanted for free. Win/win.

Have Direct TV now. Sucks when storms roll through, but it's superior to Comcast/cable imo.

So you're saying I can use my parents DirectTV from my place with Roku?

I'm dropping Verizon Fios. I've never had a company screw with me this much. The customer service reps actually out and out lie to you on pricing.

If they offer the Free Week "Trial" for MLB... they must allow you to Cancel.

I've been doing a lot of study with Cable/Satellite pricing... and also internet.

If you can get satellite for $65.00 that's a good price. Pausing Live TV is a great feature.

If you can get internet for $20.00 that's a good price. Signed up with WOWWAY which is Comcast's competitor in Detroit. It was for 15 mbps on the download. Oddly enough it's maxed out at over 30 mbps this month for some reason? So I'll take it.

I've looked at Sling TV. I've even looked into getting a digital antenna for CBS, FOX, ABC etc. My contract ends with DirecTV on Sept. 6 and honestly... don't care for the Sunday Ticket Package. I don't want a Free Sunday Ticket to get locked in another 2 year deal with DirecTV. Keep your options open. That's all I can say... but things are starting to change... soon we'll be purchasing our own channels for $3.99 or $4.99 a month through the internet... its going to happen one day.

These cable providers got locked into their own long term deals with AMC... and Weather Channel... etc. Then, they charge US for the amount they paid those companies. Fuk them.

No one should be paying for internet more than $20.00 a month... That's 100% for sure.

And 1 crucial thing... always ask for the "Retention Department" when cancelling or changing program.

DO NOT LET A "REGULAR CUSTOMER CARE ASSOCIATE" take the call... they don't have any power in reducing your bill at a significant rate.

I'm with them. Have the triple package. My two year deal just ran out. I called and got an even lower rate than when
I joined two years ago, plus got HBO free for a year, all with a customer service rep.

I too am going to cancel the satellite this summer. You actually have it good in the states for cable/satellite TV offering different choices.
Up in Canada Bell/Rogers are pretty much the only game in town and BELL is the worst fuking company i have ever dealt with. They have fuked with me so many times with phantom credits on my bill and it's back up to $90 a month when I watch maybe 7 hours of TV a week max. You can't remove channels and 90% of the time you're talking to some Indian that can't help you at all when you do have a problem. So fuk these guys I'm not even tech savvy but i'm going the streaming route because $1000+ a year to these pricks is a joke on me.

They really do have it so good Joey.
Because of the CRTC, it virtually impossible to steal American cable, if you wanted to.
