Many bettors make more than the median income in this country.....betting sports.

That makes than richer than quite a high percentage of people on this little planet called earth.

Many have gotten rich, and many more do it as a sustainable living. You just don't hear a lot about it because sports bettors like to keep a low profile. Sports betting is still seen by most as a degenerate pastime, unlike poker which has made the jump to the mainstream.

Don't forget at least 85% of poker pros are flat broke also

The remaining 15% some make it on endorsements not playing poker

Like D2D said sports betting is beatable and can win you enough to make a living at or at least a good subsidiary income. Problem most have like all gamblers is money management and self discipline. Most sports bettors will bet the mnf football gm for ex just because it's on tv when even if they have no edge or see no strong angle. But hey it's on t.v. and I need "action" right? Not really that hard to pick winners that can hit +ev a substantial amount of the time even if it's just betting maybe 3/5 games a week. But most don't have that and Vegas feeds on the weakness.Guilty myself I must admit for most of my sports betting career but been working hard this past year to reel it in and have seen results!

Sure their are plenty who make at least an honest living at this but they are the ones who have mastered self control more I'm sure. Not rich by societies monetary standards but hell if you can figure a way to make 30-50k even annually and call the sports book your office then you've made it! Far as Walters goes I've seen the 60 min and read up on him a bit and from what I gathered he was a deadbeat lifelong loser in betting who sold cars for a living. Then moved to Vegas and got involved with the computer group as a runner or lackey of some sort and made his initial big coin. He simply stumbled onto a lucrative opportunity in its starting phase and ran with it. Not like he's some genie that has a gift picking games better than some of us. SELF DISCIPLINE!!!! Most important thing to remember boys. Might not be the next B.W. with a billion in the bank but making say $30-50k a year better than sitting in a office or plunging toilets for a living. Or the latter who wouldn't want to make that extra 5k or so as extra income that's why we do this right? Lotta negativety in this thread someone had to raise the bar. Good winnin everyone!!

Take a truly special person to display this kind of discipline. But we all have those ingrained tendencies that almost always seem to pan out. If someone actually had the brains and discipline to bet let's say a couple dimes each on maybe 10-20 games a year on "lock bets" he would make a killing. For ex always bet Brady vs Peyton, always bet Donks with Peyton vs Oak and the tt ov, always fade Andy Dalton in a primetime gm etc. Come up with a handful of scenarios like that and pound em smile all the to the bank. Too bad 99.9% of us can't....

Most players want to make bets.

    They WANT the BET.

A few, want to make money.

    They WANT the MONEY.

Therein lies the difference when you talk about people gambling.

bobbywaves is the exception to this rule....... he allegedly tried being a bookie, scammed a bunch of people outta their money, lost it all, and probably had a contract out on his gay-ass head at some point, and then wound up here, where his entire remainging wealth is tied up in the 42,000 betpoints he brags about, but is about to ship to triple d bets and others when he loses his poker challanges........

Will you start a new thread please with the subject being to compile the Bible-like list of such bets?, we'll need new ones...Brady Manning related stuff hasn't all that long of a time to go, Dalton should be good for awhile. Interested in what the community has to say about other bets of this type, auto-plays.

Lines and information are way too prevalent now to make a career of this. The only people making money in sports gambling are the books because they get the juice.

The best sports handicapper in the world can only set a line. It's luck if the outcome is on either side of it so betting the line still does not do you any good. The only way to even get ahead in this game is to spot play with dusciplined money mgmt or arbitrage with big amounts and small margins.

I remember that dude Vegas making a thread on how he was going to live in Las Vegas from strictly wagerings. Forget about it. Sports gambling is like a casino. The house always wins. Juice is too much.

While I agree that can be a winning way Nasher....that's not the only way. Volume players can win too....and there are a dozen different strategies that can win if the guy making the picks has 'it'. You know this.
