    Engagement rings

    2 part question.
    1. Is that the same as a wedding ring? Or I gotta buy that separately too?

    2. Wat would be a reasonable price range?

No, not the same. You will need to get a wedding ring later.

2 months salary is the expected cost of an engagement ring.

Different . Wedding is just the band. Engagement is the diamond, the pricey one.

reasonable price depends on your income. The fact is you should find a decent appraiser and buy one privately. The mark up is 200-300 percent. You need to find a ring someone is selling, there 100's of options in virtually every city. The cut clarity and karat is the three factors that matter. Any questions you have PM me or post here, and no I don't have one to sell and won't be offering you a referral. I will give you info just to help you out

They are usually two separate rings depending on the setting you put your center stone in. If it's simply a solitaire than you would get two different rings, but if you get a more elaborate setting you might just go with one band. Essentially the wider the band the less chance of joining two together.

As far as cost goes there is an old saying that you want to spend something like three months salary. That being said I am sure if was first said by a guy trying to sell a diamond. This is just the first in a lot things you will be paying for when getting married. By all means get your lady something you want to be proud of, but don't put yourself into a deep hole over it.

Not a chance I would ever spend that much on a ring.

What's her birthstone? Could do a ring featuring birthstone with 2 smaller diamonds on the side. Much cheaper and more original and special. Might depend on the stone though. I did mine using a sapphire and she got a ton of compliments even from random strangers. She lost it along with wedding band a few months ago so got get another made.

I got my wife a custom engagement ring with a diamond in the center with 2 smaller Emeralds(my birthstone) on each side. It was only $2,000 and was appreciated much more than a typical diamond ring. Same thing, many more compliments with a story to tell behind it.

Thanks for all the responses. I figure ill get a promise ring first n work on the engagement ring later.

So i paid $50 for it. At the time it seem ok. But now that i look back on it. 50$ isn't much? N the ring looks plastic. Silver.
    No refunds either..
Should i give it to her?
Or fork over some cash n her something decent? Wat would be a decent range?

Are you already engaged? I wouldn't be popping the question with a $50 ring. If she is under 13 years old, a promise ring might fly though.

That stuff about 2-3 months of your salary was drummed up by the jewelry industry.

    What a joke.

Buy her what you can afford and what makes sense.

Don't let a phony standard be your measuring stick.

Set the trends with your future wife, don't follow them.

You will be glad you did.

I would agree with you in regards staying within your means because if a women really loves you then the amount wouldn't matter... At least that's what most women with class would tell you and the rest would be considered gold diggers (aka: Peg Bundy)

I think you have me confused with somebody else. As far as point whore I am not sure how you came to that idea. I play poker and bet on UFC every once in awhile. That is about it.
