Depends on what you like to do. When I lived in the States, I use to buy (by the pallet) clearance and returned merchandise (I only bought electronics) from stores like Walmart, Sears, Target, Best Buy etc. I would then list each item on ebay and made a rather nice profit doing it. I started out buying just 1 pallet, listing everything, then buying 2 pallets, etc. Before I knew it, I was buying 1/4 a container, then 1/2 a container.

I would buy the merchandise from companies like http://www.westcoasttrading.com. I loved the business.

I've started up with less shit my east LA op was started with 6k "the barrio op" lol ....although I wouldn't recommend some new booty coming in to the game green as fukk with no connections in a non med st jumping in right now in this market uphill battle imo to say the least but if you got the determination go for it learning curve is sharp don't believe look at all the showrooms full of growing equipement on craigslist (most of it looking pretty new too) ... those are failed grow ops.

I recently started renting out poker tables, aimed at people wanting to host home games, as everyone else in my city seemed to be aiming at bigger markets. And I only wanted something very part time anyway.

It's fun, easy, and has grown into near a full time job in a couple of months.

Spent $80 on the first table and $50 on the first chip set. Total start up costs.

Put a free ad on a local classified site and rented it at least once almost every weekend for the next 5 or 6 weeks at $100/night. So got serious and setup a website and bought some google ads.

Since then bought 3 more tables and about to pick up 2 more tomorrow. Plus Ive bought 20 chairs to rent too. I've spent under $2000 including a covered trailer to store and transport them in. Seems like I should be able to rent 5 or 6 per weekend reliably the way its been going. Which is about all I want to handle by myself anyway. Probably employ someone to do delivery/pickups if it gets any bigger than that.

If you have a vehicle to deliver them in, about $1000 cost for 4 new tables and 4 chip sets and cards is about it to get started with enough equipment to cover a one man operation. Most home games are Saturday night with the occasional Friday and Sunday so can easily be done part time. If you don't know where or how to advertise or setup a simple website maybe add another $1000, but if you have much nouse you can do that part for a lot less to get started too.

Not a big time business idea but I reckon anyone could do it anywhere almost.

And like I said, you can even start with a cheap 2nd hand table and free advert to see if you get the same response I did if you want.

I never bought from that company itself, so I have no idea on them. Sears was my favorite to buy from - Walmart and Kmart was the worst. You get overstock, returns and clearance merchandise. Walmart and Kmart would be low quality stuff, sometimes broken, destroyed packaging. It was just a nightmare. Sears was perfect.

I wasn't all that smart really. I came up with it by looking for someone to hire me a table for a one off home game but could not so had to buy a table. The free ad was just out of interest when i went to sell it afterward and realized I could rent it out for 1 night for more than I could sell it for. And people just kept coming.

I do that on the side also. My wife works for K-mart and can sometimes get 90% off items. I then resell on Craigs list and make more than 50%. I can also diagnose and repair small engines. She will buy lawnmowers customers have brought back and I will resell after installing a sparkplug, unfreezing a motor someone forgot to put oil in, etc.

I took my small engine repair skills on the road this summer and found a lawn maint guy who needed ALL his stuff
serviced. He had a lot of stuff and still does that needs work. Was making $30 an hour. Advertised on Craigs list.

Also have a truck and a 16' car trailer. Been making deliveries for K-mart. Just did one today.

Use the skills and equipment you have now and build as you go. I'm doing anything and everything. Until I can
get established, I do this under the table. Less overhead.

Stores will have contracts with wholesale companies that buy their overstock, clearance and returns. You buy pallets (or truckloads / fractional truckloads) from the wholesale companies. You can buy just about anything the stores sell, I chose electronics.

Just google something like "wholesale store returns electronics" and start doing your research. It's been a good 10 years since I've done this, so I don't recall which companies I used.

I use reprocast.com for new merchandise to return plus more. most dehumifiers can be return for full refund due to recall. I also buy a ton from two local online auction sites reselling on ebay and craigslist.
