    Are "drift" logs worth money

Hey live near a lake and for months I've seen many drift logs (1.5 foot diameter and 20 feet long). Are these logs worth any money ??

    A. As mentioned not really the place to ask this. No, very few if any poster in here is likely actively engaged in the logging industry..perhaps better to call a timber company for answers than ask a bunch of gamblers who cant pick sports pricing correctly in general...much less the value of timber.

    B. Without seeing what you have..my feeling is the value is not there. Is it worth something to someone...yes. Is it worth the time and cost of recovery for someone to travel 50 miles round trip and recover..not likely.

Dealt with timber off and on as a landowner..best bet is find some small time local, let them see what you got and allow him to pick it up, sell it and split proceeds 50/50. If you had alot, you might be able to get 60/40..but in this industry its who you know as much as what you have...new trees growing everyday.

Also might try contacting local folk art/furniture makers..if they dont want it/likely they know someone that will. Thats the main use of drift I can think of.

And if your expectations are based on reality shows..you need to adjust them.

Not to get far off here...but check the prices quoted on a very popular History Channel "Pawn" program versus what dealers see in reality..they arent kidding when they say the stuff sets for years at the prices they ask..noone would watch a program where people were quoted 75 dollars for a log..so lie and say it could be worth 5k and they watch...of course that 5k is finished into 8 porch benches..but they omit that part.
