In one of the best movies ever, White Men Can't Jump, Sydney (Wesley Snipes) says white people can't "hear" (understand) Jimmy Hendrix. However, he meant the 2nd definition of "hearing," which is comprehending the big picture of a music artist.
1. Jammin- When you sing along, move your head to the beat, and are actively engaged in the lyrics and the beat a the same time.
2. Listening- When you focus more on the lyrics than the beat.
3. Hear- In the bar or club, you can't even hear the lyrics, so you're forced to just listen to the beat. All women shake their butts to the beat.
4. Hear (2)- This is when you understand the musician's emotions put into the song. You understand his/her metaphors, and their message from a bigger picture.
