    Do Atheists Celebrate Christmas?

They don't believe in Jesus or God, so do they still partake in the holiday? It just seems weird there are so many atheist in US, but I hardly hear anyone tell another person they don't celebrate Christmas because they don't believe in God and Christianity. So do they become Christians once a year, just to celebrate?

I'm not Irish but I'm all about the drunken debauchery on St Patty's day.....not Mexican but love the tequila on Cinco de Mayo

So why not partake in the fun. Chanukah isn't really that much fun so I look for other stuff to get some thrills....might celebrate Kwanza this year and watch some NBA shows and a Spike Lee movie.

    This.

Besides, based on the positions of the stars visible in the bible, Jesus' birth would have been in late spring/early summer, so Christmas in December has nothing to do with Jesus' birth. It was celebrated in December at the same time as the pagan event (the winter solstice) in order to make it easier for them to convert to Christianity.

So, why do Christians even celebrate Christmas in December? Shouldn't they be celebrating it on some random day during May-July?

Correct. He was not born on Dec. 25th.

Religion just makes up the rules as they go.

Wasnt the origin of marriage based on religion? but its not there anymore. Christmas to most has lost its original meaning and is now about Santa and presents

Well, there are other historical documents that do verify the existence of a carpenter, son of Mary and Joseph, who believed he was a prophet. The man's existence isn't in question.

That's not the same. I'm assuming you don't have an opinion about Cinco De Mayo or St Patrick's Day so it isn't against your beliefs to celebrate with the townsfolk. But atheist do have an opinion with the aspect of christmas. They believe in the exact opposite of what it stands for, particularly who it's celebrating. So it goes against their beliefs if they were to celebrate Christmas. So your Cinco De Mayo scenario isn't the same here. A better comparison would be a skinhead (not calling you one) celebrating Kwanzaa.

Atheism is the denial of a god or gods, whether it be Jesus, or some pagan gods. So changing the day or who it first celebrated shouldn't matter. ..Should it? Jesus -biblical god, Osiris -egyptian god, Dionysus -greek god, or whoever, their all still deities. Would it makes sense for an atheist to celebrate any of those mentioned when their belief is the rejection of all gods including pagan ones?

Athiests that celebrate Christmas are probably employed in the retailing world. Shows the hypocritical nature of the mortals.

    Fun to watch...

It's probable that there was a Jew named Yeshua that became what we know to be Jesus. But the existence of Jesus can be questioned. There are no historical documents that prove it.

Exactly. If people really celebrated Christmas because of Jesus they would ignore all the other crap like christmas trees and lights that have nothing to do with Jesus.
