I'm not talking weddings. Mixing and clubs shit.

If so, how did you get started, and what is some reasonably priced equipment to start with?

I used to DJ in a club back in the '80's My buddy that used to spin there got me the job, I already knew all the managers, bartenders and waitresses That's how almost all the DJ's I used to know got their gigs, knowing all the people at different clubs. It pays to know people, you know if a spot is gonna open up, if someone is leaving or gonna get booted etc also if someone flakes out let 'em know you can be there in a moments notice.

what type of music do you wana mix? If you buy turntables you'll need to learn how to beatmatch which is not very easy. These days, lots of djs use computers and don't need to beatmatch so it might be a better way to go. Look into a program called Traktor or ableton live. Good luck and no, you are never too late to dj as long as you're good.

One of the biggest myths about DJ'ing is if you use a PC you don't have to beatmatch. The PC does not beatmatch for you well enough to get a pro gig.

this market is saturated. There are thousands of djs right now who know how to mix. Getting a job at a club or something would be almost impossible unless you just threw your own party or started your own rave.

Better to try to create your own stuff. One of the simpler machines to start with is the akai mpc 1000. Start sampling and creating beats. If you create original dope stuff you can make some money selling beats, still not much money though, but it's fun if you're into music!

My Brother is a DJ. Your equipment varies, because some place already has all the goodies, Speakers, Mixer, ETC. You'll probably make around $150-250 a gig, more likely at private party if your reputable, because they will recommend you to everyone if you do well. Private parties is where your more likely are going to have to bring your own sh1t. Clubs on pay around $100 a night since they use several DJ's, so don't expect to make much unless you work for a radio station.

What you will need is your own Mixer, amplifier, Virtually every top 100 hit from every genre(rock, rap, country, house) from the 80's to Present, putting most of the music on an Apple MAC laptop since it works the best for some reason, and your own surround Speaker setup(JBL). Buying all that equipment will cost you less than 2k, which you can get back in a month, depending on how many gigs you get.

"well enough" are the key words. Still a lot easier to do than using only turntables.

all you need to know, basically don't bother unless you're going to try & start producing, which is much harder than DJ'ing in itself

i can tell from your posts that this game might not be for you, just a heads up before you go droppings $$$ on equipment
