As title says, looking to get a nice bottle of whiskey today. What would you recommend? Looking at Macallin 12 year but interested in hearing suggestions. Joining my family on Tuesday and would like to give my dad a nice pour before we shoot a round.

Whiskey comes in many forms--you probably should have specified what you're looking for, although if you are thinking Macallan I suppose you're a Scotch guy. If you are looking at any whiskey, as a fan of bourbon, I suggest Four Roses. Not available everywhere, but not incredibly difficult to find either, I find it tastes pricier than it is (about $35 for the 3/4 liter bottle).

Thanks guys for the feedback. Need to move on from the shitty quality of Jim beam and similar cheap whiskeys. Also need to learn all the different types without getting fukked in the process (or having a cheap Uber back at least).

Maker's Mark is on the sweet side but pretty good. An interesting choice is Trader Joes's store brand whisky. $15 a bottle but it's made by Buffalo Trace's distillery and it's surprisingly good.

Yup.This is the one. Very polarizing.
Never over ice, but with a drop of warm water, heaven.
