What Decade Was The Greatest Period Of Your Life?

So yesterday, I'm waiting for the Flyers game to come on.

I see that on one of the channels they're playing The Breakfast Club.

So as I'm watching it, it brought me back to how much I loved the 80s.

    Times were good.

    People had money and jobs.

    Reagan was president.

Pope John Paul II came to America.

Just wondering what was the best decade to be alive for you guys?

    i loved the 70s

i was like fukin 2 years old or some sh*t, just fukin CHILLING, all these freakshows in fukin bellbottoms coming up to me talkin bout "oh you so cute oh you so cute" i was like "thanks but your a fukin mess lady, and by the way yes coke is addictive, youll realize that in 10 years" yeah i was a hip kid, i knew what was up from day 1

used to go to the store, buy fukin wacky packs, cool as sh*t, and buy fukin packs of baseball cards for like 5 cents, you could get a rickey henderson rookie card, eddie murray rookie card, ozzie smith rookie card, easy, i knew them sh*ts was gonna be worth bank in a few years, so i told my moms to just let me get them baseball card packs for like 10 cents and i sold them sh*ts for like 50 bucks a pop a few years later

used to just CHILL up in harlem in the 70s, buying wacky packs and sh*t, making fun of white disco losers, being like 4 years old and a badass kid

also that was before the fukin yuppies came in the 80s and ruined everything, and also was before all the bankers came in the 80s and 90s and 2000s and stole all the fukin money and made us all there slaves

man the 70s was fukin cool

also you had all them badass shows on TV - roots, how the west was won, taxi, welcome back kotter, good times, soul train, wkrp in cincinnati, jokers wild, card sharks, magic garden, man you had fukin stevie wonder on sesame street, man them days was the sh*t

In the 80s I was just starting to learn how to gamble.

Back then the local books took "if" bets. You know, if this bet wins then I want this...

I if-betted my local book so much they stopped taking them.

    Boy were they pissed.

    Good times.

I define decades by music (I think a lot do), and as a sweeping generalization, music was the best during the late 60's early 70's and late late 80's to about mid to late 90's.

As another sweeping generalization, I hate the music that ensued in the pop-culture following the great decades of music. Disco was absolute horseshit garbage, and the 80's glam rock makes me want to punch a baby, but that shit is goddamn masterpieces in comparison to the load of shit that has filled the airwaves since The Back Street Boys and American idol took over.

As far as politics go, I will take the blowjobs of the 90's over the no jobs of the mid 2000's all the way to the early 2010's.

Most fun: 80's.........all day long (but, for me.....because of college.....best of times ran over into the early 90's as well). Great music, no big AIDS panic meant everybody was getting some lovin, no real worries/responsibilities, etc. etc. Fantastic times.

    I hear ya pal.

I do agree that the music of the 60s and 70s was far superior over that of the 80s.

That being said, however, I do think the music of the 80s is generally underrated by most.

The 80s produced.....U2, Madonna, Prince, The Police, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, and hundreds of others.

It does not get the credit it deserves imo.

I basically can't stand the 80's or anything that represents that miserable time. But, for some reason, the damn movies that have come out of that decade keep grabbing me when I am flicking through channels. I swear I have watched the movie that started this thread about 3 times over the last 2 years, simply due to flicking through channels. Just watched the whole damn Goonies movie the otherday.

For me mid 2000s.........Last few years of high school

Pussy and alcohol every weekend.....No one gave a fukk and couldn't get in any real trouble for doing whatever you wanted.........I just remember being so excited after football on friday nights for the party at the kids house whose parents were outta town

College probably a better overall time, but last few years of high school were great just because of no responsibility except getting a decent report card

1970's were a great time as a kid. Television was quality. What shows could stand up to Happy Days, All in the Family, etc. We didn't have cable but everything was so carefree. Mattel electronic football, 2XL, litebright, shogun, cool halloween costumes...it was fun. Going to day camp, coming home and watching monday night baseball after eating good humor ice cream out of the real good humor trucks. Everything was so relaxed. People weren't trying to out do the other person. It really was about peace and love. Star Wars in the movie theatre Grease....they don't make movies like Rocky etc... Loshak named some good tv shows in his own way (lmao). 8 tracks, betamax was the best. My dad would tape "The White Shadow" and we would eat Lenders pizza bagels. I wish that i could go back but I guess you just have to enjoy today because tomorrow isn't promised. Oh yeah, can't forget Reggie Jackson hitting 3 homers in the World Series. He was a character. Guys today are a shell of him personality-wise

Funny you mention The Goonies, pal. Real funny.

This past Christmas season, a couple of days before Christmas Day actually, I took my family to a local pizzeria here that's pretty famous for it's pie.

As I'm walking in through the front door of the place, guess who stops me, grabs me by the shoulder, and asks me to take his picture with another gentleman in the pizzeria?

Robert Davi, the guy who played Jake in The Goonies.

    What a great fukkin guy.
