    Dallas local shut down..

Logged into my book this morning to check out out some games I was liking, only to see this message:

"*** TAKING A BREAK UNTIL AUG 6TH. PLUS BALANCES WILL BE PAID. THANKS FOR YOUR LOYALTY."

The book I use is a really popular big book out of Dallas, Tx and I've been with them for over 2 years. 1-800 number, online betting etc. Anyone ever have a situation like this? I'm really surprised and curious as to what happened. Seemed very professional.

Not many books would skip booking the NCAA/NBA tourney n playoffs. A lot of locals are not interested in the everyday grind of lightly bet baseball.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed that they would be unavailable for March Madness.

I can't really imagine whats going on, I know its not a personal issue because the main bookie has an assistant that has been handling all the business lately...(or just small timers like me).

    Time to do some digging.

lolzz...must have gotten into some trouble or they werent near as big as they had you believing... any joe can get a pph site with a big time 800# ... either the law got them or football busted them... fwiw, i know locals who have gotten buried in foots and actually borrowed money to get them started back for conf. champs and march madness... march is an amazingly profitable month for books in college hoops.

don't use locals unless you have an awfully good reason (bonuses, etc)

i wouldn't want to be on a local's books when he gets busted, especially if that local owes me money

and if you're betting online then instead of being on the books as "mike" then they have your ip address which means name, address, etc

I just trusted them more than I would most overseas betting sites. I hit a $50 parlay that payed $4700 on Sunday this football season and had cash in the mail on Tuesday.

I did always wonder what would happen if they did get busted...I'm sure the book would be in some deep shit, but I don't feel like the players would have anything to worry about. Especially guys like me that bet $100 a game, or less.

The only thing I'd kind of worry about is if he got in trouble if he would give you up and they would see the $4700 hit and try to tax the shit out of you on it. Not really sure how that would all workout.

the law enforcement should not care about his 4700 dollar hit.

still would be abig hit for me, just dont think that factors in to the investigation.

Law enforcement goes after the book, not the player.

you got lucky you received the $4700

otherwise with a local you have NO RECOURSE, what are you going to do tell the cops they didn't pay on your illegal bet?

with online sportsbooks sbr and other watchdog sites would make 100% sure you got paid out of any decent book

its good to have both. sure, i guess its possible the local wouldnt play. my local is part of a larger organization and i actually think money is safer with them then with some offshore books, or at least just as safe.

everything is safe right up to the point where it isn't

a lot of people thought their money was safe in full tilt/poker stars

I'd rather deal with a local. Cash in hand, no fees.

You make a good point that sbr can help if a book stiffs you, but do you really feel like your money is safer offshore?

Like full tilt like you said, no one knows when the next book will be seized.

Hard to believe that a usa local book is dumb enough to have a booking website on the internet with a usa address knowing they will get busted sooner or later..........

Their site is registered in Costa Rica, I'm guessing that gives them some sort of immunity.

I'm still curious to why they have a date to open betting back up again...Seems to me they would have just deleted the site if they were busted or something.

They are not a local then, your $$ is going overseas so trusting them with your $ is worse than trusting a legit overseas book.........

They are local. Its just that their website domain is registered in Costa Rica, for legal reasons I'm sure.

Probably was tipped off that he was on someone's LE radar, and decided to go on the lam for a while. If he pays the balances, he is an honorable local.

taking 6 months off is not a good sign

i would be mentally writing it off if i had any money there, i think the odds of getting paid (especially after your balance was zeroed out) are pretty slim.

Definitely not putting anybody out of business, trust me. I do very well betting 2nd half NCAA & NBA games... if you notice the volume of my plays are always on Saturdays. I do the same during College Football season as well. I don't really post my plays too much on this forum because there is only a 15 minute window during halftime so I can't help too much. I do post up in Thads book in which I am up almost 2000 points on him in a week or so betting half lines. Trying to fly under the radar before he cuts me off.

being up 2000 points in a week is not a good way to "fly under the radar"
