For yourself, buy a cheap one. I lose my wedding ring all the time. I'll go months without being able to find it.

I bought it for $20 at an estate auction. 14kt gold. Nothing flashy at all but no one cares or looks at men's rings anyway.

Make sure he has a good read on his girl's thoughts on size....trust me it sucks when you go all out trying to 'be that guy' and then the wife only wears the wedding band everyday and the big rocks only for events/family/holidays because it's too much.

She'll wear it out the first 9 months or so and show it off to her friends etc but after that first year, it goes in the bedroom and the band gets all the spotlight.

Otherwise $3200 or so is mid level and can jump dramatically from there if you go Harry Winston or that avenue.

I bought my wife a solitaire 1.0 carat ring on eBay for like $1200. I got it appraised at a regular shop and it was appraised for $2500. She also has a band too though with some diamonds but I bought this at a jewelry shop for like $750.

haha JJ knows me well enough by now...

if I were still in my 20s, I'd want a classic cut platinum rock from Tiffany, etc... I had that and gave it back.

Now in my 30s? I'd take a Cheetos ring. The material things seem silly after awhile - and after watching your mom get buried in a ring that could feed many disadvantaged children. That stuff means nothing now. I'd just settle for a really awesome guy who lets me gamble, will talk to me about a lot of different stuff, spend a Sunday in some cheesy sportsbar eating wings, drinking beer and listening to me scream at a football screen, TEACH ME THINGS, will compliment me once in a while when I put lippy on and most importantly treats my son like a champ. Not like his dad but just like the cool little muffin that he is. Oh and won't get scared off because I might be ok financially and/or want to travel. Unfortunately there are a ton of those in Aussie land but I'm leaving so maybe/maybe not I'll find him the next place I go. Either way, it's all good

15-20k if you're OLD and unmarried.

Otherwise, if you're in your 20's, a 4-5 dime ring would be a nice 1 to 1.5 carats. Don't forget about the clarity and the color. Buy yourself a shitty online diamond, it could be appraised for less than what you paid.

    My ring= $400
    Wife's Engagement Ring= a little over 7k
    Wife's wedding band= around 1k

I think 5-7k buys you a really nice engagement ring.

In other news, am I the only one that specifically bought their own ring two sizes too big. The idea of a tight fitted ring scares the by jaysus out of me. I hate jewerly.
