Keeping it clean can be a bitch. I take it the pool is outdoors? If you have toddlers there's the fear of the little one getting in there when your back is turned. I know a couple who bought a house that had a backyard inground pool and promptly had it filled in

as people already said having a pool is dangerous if you have kids around and it costs some $$ for maintenance

and yes people do come over a lot to use your swimming pool

I'm about to fill in the pool. Too much money and too much hassle. But love the hot tub.

I pool hopped a lot when I was a kid but it's nothing to worry about... We never ruined anyone's pool or did anything malicious. We normally just hopped in and hopped out... Although one time we stayed in for like 20 minutes because we didn't think anyone was home and the cops showed and gave us tickets. Shitty buzz but I beat the ticket, cop didn't show.

People jumping in the pool should be ur last worry get a lock on the gates. I own a pool service in north Dallas and the only people that have repairs frequent are the ones with trees in the back yard. If you ever run into pool problems pm me

my buddy had an indoor pool in its own building, utilities were running $700/month vs $400 when it was shut down.

if it is outside and unheated, then of course you don't have to worry about that.

Where do you live? It's one thing to have a pool if you live in a place where you expect a long run of daily highs in the 90s or 100+. It's another thing if you live in a place where you're likely to be able to use it 3 months a year. As far as maintenance goes, it takes me 45 minutes a week and the cost is quite low. But you DO need adequate security measures for kids and people who might be able to get access to it without gates, fences, etc.

if you live in florida you will have snakes and gators in your pool from time to time. But the cool thing about having your own pool is you dont have to wear a bathing suit

Depending on where you live, if you have a good indoor pool, or underground pool, it could increase the value of your home 6 figures.
I'm not a realtor, a realtor would know better, but I grew up with a guy who had an indoor pool, when he sold his house, it was worth 75K more.

I would opt for a hot tub now...pools will double your electric bill
they require maintenance and your visitors will pee in it lol.
The bright side is you get to bang your wife/girlfriend in it at night.

Folks near me just had a pool put in a couple months ago, getting it in place for next summer. Their yard is rather small, the pool takes up almost half the space. Nice eight ft high fence. Problem is their neighbours facing them in the back have two huge maple trees near the property line. That's going to get messy for swimmers.

When I growing up one of the houses in the area had an indoor, you could see it from the street through a large window. The house wasn't any bigger than the others in the area but to me it was a Mansion. Those people had it going. Wealthy people in a middle class area. Probably not but I was just a dumb impressionable kid.

I live in Southern Ontario, so I'd probably use it about 6-7 months out of the year. If I do get this place, I'll be putting in security cams and motion sensors for sure.

    Southern Ontario?

You'd be doing the polar dip for a couple of those months.

Canadiens don't get cold I hear. But I guess you could always heat your pool.

You have to get one of those robotic cleaners, just drop in pool twice a week, also add solar panels, they are easy to do and add about 8 degrees to my pool water.

forget the pool. yes, people will come over to eat your food and drink your beer and claim that they cannot go into the water for an hour after they eat. but they keep eating and drinking your beer and the guy that's drinking your beer will say the wife will drive home how about another. so. ontario 8 weeks tops for summer usage. not worth it.

Worth it. The new saltwater pools don't require nearly the maintenance and you can get an auto sweeper to run at night. Sure it will run you some maintenance dollars, but if you are in a hot climate, it's worth it, and if you like entertaining, you always have friends up for a pool party.
