DA: NY bank teller stole $240K, arrested at casino
NEW YORK — Prosecutors say a former teller stole more than $240,000 from a Manhattan bank and was arrested gambling at a baccarat table at an Atlantic City casino.
Sephoen Tsang was being held without bail after pleading not guilty Friday to grand larceny and other charges.
The Manhattan District Attorney's office says the 22-year-old Tsang made bogus computer entries Nov. 29 to cover the $243,000 theft. Prosecutors say he left an apologetic note for the bank branch manager before leaving work that day.
Prosecutors say $26,000 in cash was found in his apartment.
Tsang's lawyer, Jane Fisher-Byrialsen (by-ree-AHL'-sehn), says her client denies the allegations. She says he left the bank to focus on his studies toward an accounting degree.
A spokesman for New York-based JPMorgan Chase says no customers were affected.
