it's many years later (after they find that body) and similar murder has been discovered so they are being interviewed about it

Not necessarily, it isnt clear what their status is now....which is why some people are speculating tht one of them is in fact the killer and is being questioned...but tht is a ridiculous theory for a number of reasons. They may be retired, they may have just been suspended or something...all we know is its a number of years later since the case they were working on, and they are being asked to relay what happened frommthe start.

I'm pretty sure Harrelson's character mentioned he worked/owned some security company now.

Far too obvious. I dont thhink he and harrelson would sign up to something so obvious. Maybe im wrong, but Pizzolatto is clearly makin Rust a big red herring in order to make the average simpleton (no offense!) think theyve cracked it! On the flipside it could be a troll job by Pizzolatto and at the end of it everybody could be saying what a shitty obvious ending (Discoveringg tht Rust is the killer) and pizzolatto saying the whole point of the show was about the characters and their development rather than the plot, but i doubt it.

I have no idea who the writers are so I'll go ahead and assume they are capable of doing something as lame as making Matthew the killer. They keep hinting at him being the killer over and over and over. Maybe that's meant to make people think he is the killer so they can turn it around and say he isn't. We'll see what happens.
