Guys, I don't mean to be a dick about this but...

The phrase "I could care less" would mean you actually care about something, because it is possible to care less. When you don't care about something you would say "I couldn't care less."

    Now for the difference between

Lose and loose.... watch for posters to be dumbfounded about inner aspects of homophones.

I couldn't care less about people spelling incorrectly or using or not using commas. I screw that up all the time. I'm just looking out for my fellow posters because I don't want them saying the opposite of what they mean.

Maybe when people say it they mean, "I could care less, but not that much less"?

I thought it was "For all intents and purposes"?

And those who use "I could/couldn't care less" generally give off an arrogant tone imo.

It is. "Intensive purposes" is one of the worst botched sayings around, which is why he gave it as an example.

The op is correct, but most people couldn't care less and can't be bothered to think about what they're actually saying.

"Guys, I don't mean to be a dick about this but..."

When you use 'but' in a sentence in this manner, it usually negates whatever is said first. There's no point in saying that you don't mean to be a dick, and then proceed to be a dick.

You really had to reach to come up with a grammatical rebuttal there didn't you chili?

The purpose of the opening statement was to establish my motive because I knew some people may take it the wrong way. It was not intended to be insulting. It's just that it is used sooo much on here and today it was a poll choice in a thread which made it a bit confusing.

Whats your point Anyone with a 4th grade education could come up with 100s of examples of sentences and define them this way!!
You could drive from the tip of Florida to the tip of Washington state and talk to every person between those points and not find one person who cares less than me about this stinks thread!!

I disagree. There was nothing wrong with what he said.

while we're at it, of course we all make a bunch of errors when typing fast and using slang..and this is not a grammatical paradise by any means..but if you really dont know the difference between your and you're...or their, there and they're...just take a couple of mins to learn it..its not that complicated.

These are the types of things that can happen when you say one thing and mean another.

I have seen several people type 'whore shit' on here; I have never seen this anywhere else. Have they simply misheard the phrase 'horse shit'?

Yes, that must be the case but I think the phrase "whore shit" works better than "horse shit" anyway.

Not sure where that came from. A lot of the deliberate mistakes here come from jj, though.

Like saying "diamond dozen" instead of "a dime a dozen" and a bunch of others.
