spend around 75 a week for myself, had to start buying my own groceries went i was 18. Dad thinks spending 135 dollars on a family of four a lot, even though 30 dollars of that is beer.

    Probably around ~$100-150 a week.

Usually pretty smart with food shopping and not buying junk.

Bought a few pounds of lean beef a few days ago for $5, made over 20 + tacos with hit.

People can live on approx 100$ of food/month but no one wants to.

A bag of oats costs me $2.50 and provides me a 500 cal meal every day for a week. Pasta is 99 cents/bag to 2.00/bag and provides me another 500 cal meal for two straight weeks. Even meat isn't that expensive. $5.00 can give you your meat portions for the week. Cheese is $5.00 and that lasts at least a month.

The problem with people is that they are so hooked on their acquired tastes they can't go back to basics. Look at the deals I've listed. A box of cookies or a bag of chips will last you 1/10th the time, but costs the same. I eat my oats with nothing on them, I eat my pasta with some salt. Organize your meals and have the same thing everyday (I do have a cheat day each week where I eat whatever, but 6/7 days it's the same thing), you will get used to it extremely quickly and you will see it is a lot less expensive. The problem is you have a partner, so chances are she won't be up for it.

Yeah I may actually need to up that amount to $10. but still, you're $200/month is very doable and I feel it should be around that for most people.

Don't know how people can spend $150/wk on food if it's for one person.

Yea girl plans out dinners each night. I grill probably 4 nights a week. We buy no junk food. I think super markets are just pricey where I live (Lincoln park, Chicago)

She is leaving for business for two weeks where I'll probably go dollar menu for awhile, but liquor bill will go way up

Most young people especially guys can't cook very well and heating up frozen nuggets or BBQing is not cooking.
It's easier for them to buy kraft dinner, canned soups, ready meals. All crap, all overpriced, loaded with sodium, not fresh. Took me a little bit of time to start cooking real meals.

Depends on how much meat you buy. My wife and I budget 100 bux every two weeks. She is a Vegan so that helps. But some of that organic shit she gets is expensive. But we have some hippie stores out here that are pretty cheap. Pork chops 1.99 a lb bone in, 90% ground beef 2.99 a lb, boneless chicken breast 2.49 a lb, every day from the deli. So we go and get what we need every other day or so.

Junk food, chips and soda we get at the .99 cent store. Dont laugh, they have name brand stuff and even canned stuff is top shelf. But chips, cookies, pretzels, corn chips and al that normal junk food she picks up there. Then we go to Vons or Ralphs for the normal stuff, then the hippy stores for the meat and vegetables. Smart and final just redid their store so they have smaller packages now so they have some decent deals too.

California is too expensive for everything but food. Seems like the prices for food here are actually cheaper than most other places. But since everything is pretty much locally grown it makes sense.

Damn, I must be poor because I spend about 100-120 per *month*. I can't imagine spending that much per week. WTF are you people buying??! Don't you people eat rice and vegetables? A big bag of rice only cost 3.50 and chicken is only 2.00 - 4.00 per lb, depending if you catch it on sale or not. Fruit isn't that much either. And this is all at a regular grocery store, not crappy ass Walmart.

me and my dad spend about 400 a month on groceries. he eats oatmeal every morning for breakfast but coffee, cheese, and milk can get expensive. Cheese will last us about 2 weeks. spend about 7 bucks a week on milk.

We will buy about 3 thing of meat for the week. a form of steak once a week, pork cops or chicken, and a pound or 2 of meat from the deli for sandwhiches for the week. Those purchases alone will costs 25-30 a week just in meats.

Spent 150 for two and that's not buying prepackaged foods. Usually last less than two weeks. I'm with Masu, I eat oatmeal, grits, fruits, veggies... but then have to take trips to the store in between big shopping to get little things

About $800-$1000 a month for two(included is occasional meal out + social activities). Food prices have risen a lot in the last 3 years in my area. I used to spend $400-$600 and have not altered my habits drastically. I could get it down but having to eat oats and salty spaghetti every night? I happen to enjoy my social life and being in a relationship. Maybe some younger guys can get by like ERE misers but it's not something I've acquired the taste for.

I only buy stuff on sale, unless it's something like milk, which is usually on sale anyway.

    I'll spend like 40 bucks a week

Family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) and we spend around GBP 900 (USD 1400) per month.
That doesn't include eating out or school lunches for the kids.

This is easily 20% more than we spent last year which is partly the kids growing up but inflation in food prices has been fairly hideous.

Last year was my first year ever living alone, and I spent $1000 on groceries in about 7 months.

This year I'm spending a little bit more, but I still eat pretty cheap.
