Fishhead... I was just wondering... say for instance someone wanted to try to gamble full time in Vegas? Sports wagering only...

Where's a good place to rent or stay for a few months? Something affordable... but if I fail... I want to get out of there ASAP. LOL Like, would a person need to stay right next to the strip? What's your opinion? Thank You.

no offense but the Mexican gangs, Rolling 6 etc....would tear you even wider than you already are pops. When you blow enough guys to afford a flight to Vegas I will bring you to each bad neighborhood and watch you catch a quick beat down in every single one. Quit acting like a thug. You are just a old bald white guy who needs to remember to take his meds.

Would try a BUDGET suite extreme south on LV BLVD(near the South Point).....or an apartment with a 7 month lease a couple blocks from the area(Bermuda RD)

Decent area(not great by any means) and you will be 3 miles from Mandalay Bay(start of the real strip) and 4 miles from TheM.............and close to SP as mentioned.

This if you have transportation, which I'm guessing you will.

The Budget Suites will run you 900-1000 on a monthly basis.

Fishhead is that with everything included with cable tv, internet, and utilities? That does sound pretty affordable to me if those are included. The only other thing is that can you find work there? I did hear that unemployment is high there and I was there last year and I thought the economy was getting somewhat better.

always love vegas since I am a degen, but man, I went for a trade show at the LV hilton, and its amazing how just 1-2 blocks down from the strip is nothing but homeless people, abandoned buildings, stench, and just crap. Kinda reminds me of downtown L.A. back home!!

Yep, take a map of Vegas, and draw a line around the strip. Then take another line and draw a 2 mile perimeter around your first line. Avoid the area in between. Unless it's south, then that's just the airport.

Fishhead is right, setting up camp here in South Vegas is ideal. Very convenient, not ghetto, great proximity, right by I-15, I-215, and Las Vegas Boulevard. Love it out here.

Not terrible, not great either. UNLV is really a city college (like Temple, Cincinatti, SMU), in other words the area around it isn't very college-like.

Random trash everywhere? -- We get a lot of wind, and this may lead to it. For the most part though, very clean, thanks to all the Mexican labor. Fairly low pollution, due to the lack of industrial commerce here. Hustlers? -- Mostly harmless wanna-bes. This town is so big and varied, not one person or group of people thinks they run things. Keeps people in check. High crime rate -- Only in the areas that are obviously crime zones. Strip clubs, areas within 2 mi of the Strip, North Vegas, Northeast Vegas. All very easy places to avoid, just like anywhere else. Leaves a LOT of the valley up for your enjoyment, the majority actually. Being able to pretty much make your own rules, hot women from every ethnicity, a go-get-it attitude, proximity to California (without all the taxes), very few insects, you don't have to go visit friends because they'd rather come visit you, top notch food, nightlife for all different kinds of people, we've got it all. And there's no better place to be 25-50 years old and single. The only thing my hometown of St. Louis ever caters to is kids/families, the elderly, and helping out lazy poor people that don't deserve help. Vegas could give a shit about all those things. My kind of town!!

UNLV is a land-locked dump where only remedial students that were rejected everywhere else attend. Everyone commutes and they have a significant transfer population. Hence the no school pride.

Pathetic to go to a basketball game and see maybe a couple dozen students there. Completely understand why no one goes to college football games. Team sucks and the stadium is a 30 minute drive from 3/4ths of the metro area.
