    Buying storage units?

    Anybody doing it?

Did you do it before the tv shows glamorizing it?

What do you do with all the shit you get? Garage sales? Do you own a thrift store?

    Is it worth it????

    Too much work?

Tv shows glamorizing it? Links? Is this another one of the learning channels reality type shows?

I used to talk to a guy near my unit who lived in his storage unit and played with his 80's metal band at night, had to use the bathroom in a port a john though. LOL

He told me people do really well on these auctions, and, actually, this is a very good thread.

Bidding on a abandoned storage unit seems to me gambling of the highest degree. People who looked in mine might see some antiques on top, but I feel sorry for them when they get to the back, tons of scratched albums from the 70s, old bell bottoms too smelly to wear form prolonged storage, and tons of coat hangers and junk. Just junk.

Yeah, there are 2-3 shows about buying storage units. They are all scipted, of course. But I am guessing that after these shows started airing, everybody and their mama are out their trying to buy units.

Probably not even worht it now because everybody is bidding the units up way too high.

My friends are managers of a storage facility. They say you can get some good deals on units but a lot of them just have household stuff like furniture and then clothes. Some have had coins and one had signed sports memorabilia.

My friends let a homeless woman stay in her unit because they felt sorry for her. She dropped a deuce in a plastic bag and had a place to get rid of it. She also had an office area next door that rented cubicles for $99/month. She had a friend who let her in there to take a shower.

She eventually got social security that paid her enough to live in a weekly apartment but she bought a van instead and lived in that. I guess she was more comfortable living on the street than in her own place.

wow... even if there was any money in it, it would be alot of work unless you are already used to selling things on ebay/craigslist, etc.. doubtful most people would leave anything of value inside a storage unit anyway.

I've watched the show a few times and it does seem like everything is scripted. From the few episodes I watched they make it seem like you can make a lot of money doing this. Seems like every show they each character buys a unit, it looks like there is nothing in it, then out of nowhere they pull out something worth a lot of money. Reality tv sucks.

I wonder if the storage has to auction it off by law, or can they just keep the stuff themselves ?

I think you would need a big barn or something to move the stuff to and then a storefront to sell stuff or a partner with one. Also a way to dump trash cheaply.

Dave was whining and crying like a little bitch last episode over what that kid did to his hat. That kid's bear looking father Darrell was about to stomp Dave.

Also, I would like to suck on Brandi's .

those shows are driving the prices up because everybody thinks they are going to make money. They only show the good stuff, but a majority of the time you dont make anything and you get stuck with a bunch of junk.

If you have a thrift store or a consignment shop, it makes sense. It's an easy way to replenish inventory on the cheap. Otherwise, I would stay away.

It definitely piqued my interest after getting hooked on Storage Wars, but you'd have to think the bargains are few and far between now that the show has blown up.

Before that show game out, I never even heard of people doing that. I can't believe there are that many people that just don't pay the storage unit fee and leave everything there. Seems kind of -EV
