Pokerstars confiscates 500 grand from underaged player

PokerStars confiscates $500,000 from underaged player

A peculiar case has emerged in the wake of Sunday's record-breaking Sunday Million tournament. 6th place finisher "zeurrr" was found to be underage and has now had his $500,000 prize money confiscated.

The tournament eventually was won by "Bdbeatslayer", who took home a Lamborghini Gallardo and $671,093 after a nine-way deal was struck on the final table. Also getting a piece of the deal was "zeurrr", who ended up cashing $518,402, but a peculiar case is now unfolding in the wake of the historic tournament, leaving "zeurrr" completely empty-handed.

The instance occurred as a Dutch newspaper tried to phone up "zeurrr" - whose account was registered from the Netherlands - only to get in contact with the player's father.

The father then claimed that it was him, not his son, who had won the money, and this lead the newspaper to investigate the case further. It finally turned out that the father was indeed covering for his son by claiming he was the winner, as the son himself was only 17 and as such not legally allowed to play on Pokerstars

According to mpcpoker.com, PokerStars initiated an investigation of the circumstances, and today is was confirmed by a Dutch representative from the site that the prize money has been confiscated as "zeurrr" was not old enough to play in the first place.

The odd case has since spurred wild debates on especially TwoPlusTwo.com, with among others Tom Dwan defending the young winner, arguing that underaged players do not hold any significant edge over their opponents, and that they should therefore be allowed to play.

PokerStars nonetheless seems decided in the case, and it is now speculated that the confiscated prize money will be distributed among the rest of the tournament winners.

Kid is an idiot for registering under his own name with a fake DOB. Would have no problem giving him the money if the account was under the Dad's name with proper DOB.

This kid was an idiot. He didn't think about anything and how no idea at all how he was going to get paid. He got extremely lucky throughout the tournament. At the final table he tried to get each player to give him an extra $10k before he accepted the deal, even though he was the worst player at the table. You guys can watch his terrible plays on the sunday million replay and see. He also felt the need to post all his information on his twitter and tell the world he was underage. The bottom line is he played illegally and he will not be payed.

Of course PokerStars is going to err of the side of keeping 500k to themselves.

They aren't keeping it, they'll distribute it amongst all the cashers per their TOS.

With all the money they are spending on lobbying the US to legalize poker, they really can't risk the publicity of paying this kid now. They are trying to assure the government no underage gambling goes on and this would be a big blow to that. Sucks for him. At least they are redistributing the money.

They aren't spending shit, legalization will put a massive dent into any room that is open to US players now.

tough lesson to learn for the kid. I bet the dad's kicking his ass for sure. If he hadn't kept the winnings secret from his family his dad would have been able to cover for him!

Wow what a total dumb shit. From just the very little I have read he was bragging on twitter then change his twitter details to his dad's name etc. May have also registered with the correct bday showing him being underage. Not sure other details but it's pretty hard to get caught if it WAS the father's info on the account. It would be really hard to prove. LOL

There will be a whole shitshow debate on whether the top 9 gets their money distributed by the pay table or by the deal. First time this has happened in a 9 way chop.

deal makes the most sense because from the point the deal was made, the dynamics at the table change

They don't chop the whole thing , a certain % has to be left to play for.

    What's the problem here?
Kid broke the rules, it's not like the rules weren't there in black and white to begin with.
    Good job PS.

p.s. Phil Ivey played in NJ casinos under age, it's common knowledge, yet that story seems to be glorified.

How could they tell it wasn't his father? Did the kid use his own name with a faulty birthday? Because I think it would be hard to find out if he used his fathers information.
