Tennessee gambling Bust Nets Poker Champ

Personally, I think it's worth the risk these guys take.

I can't blame these poker champs for playing in these types of games at all. I mean there are a bunch of fish at those types of poker games.

Tenn. Gambling Bust Nets Poker Champ

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — A divisional winner of the World Series of Poker was arrested with 15 other men during a gambling raid that yielded almost $20,000, police said.

Paul McKinney and the others were sitting around a table playing poker Friday night when the raid occurred, police said. Authorities said they seized cash, playing cards and poker chips, as well as betting slips for the weekend's sporting events.

McKinney, 82, of Weber City, Va., won the 2005 Seniors Division of the World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas, taking home $202,725, series spokesman Dave Curley said. At the time he was the oldest winner in World Series of Poker history.

Police in Kingsport, in eastern Tennessee, conducted the raid after getting a tip. All those arrested were charged with gambling.

McKinney was one of two people charged with aggravated gambling promotion on suspicion of organizing and promoting the event, according to police reports. Police also said McKinney was charged with possession of Schedule III narcotics after pills were found in his pocket.

McKinney was released Friday on $3,250 bond.

There was no phone number listed for McKinney in Weber City, and it was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney. No court date had been set Tuesday.

An 82 year old man with pills in his pocket? Get a life.

Hmmmmm..... I wonder what he might be doing with those. He got a dodgy ticker by any chance?

    just more nonsense.
you can gamble in a casino, but not in a bar.
but around here, bars can have up to 3 slot machines each so you CAN gamble in a bar as long as it's not dice, cards, sports, etc.

a harmless crime when almost every state has legalized gambling-those wishing to piss their money away can do it at a casino so what are home poker games hurting?

Aren't there more important issues the police could be addressing?

I agree, go find killers, not poker players.

Most likely the third degree narcotics were prescribed by his doctor and he didn't have the RX on him. The police just charge him anyhow, so he has to show up to court with the RX. The police need to find something better to do with their time than arrest people like this. They are no threat to me. I am sick and tired of the lack of freedom in this country.

around here they have been closing bar games like crazy.
and most are just $20-100 tournament games, hard to believe they get "tipped off" for someone losing only $50 or so.
