Ace on the River- Barry Greenstein

I just finished rereading this 15 year old book and I got some good things out of it. The book reminds me of the Knish quote from rounders "showing you the playbook I put together off my own beats." Greenstein basically wrote a manual for how to approach life as a gambler and how to avoid certain pitfalls of the lifestyle.

Different chapters will be more applicable to different people. His advice to take one-off shots at juicy situations even if you aren't bankrolled for them long-term is a lesson I wish I had learned back when the book was written. I recommend Ace on the River for anyone who is looking to gamble professionally or as a serious side-hustle. You can get it used on amazon for under $3.

    Thanks for the points, Peavy.

There's a chapter on sexuality where Barry writes about the importance of not being a sugar daddy and advises to have a second sex partner to take on the road with you when your woman wants to stay at home... that chapter alone is worth the price of the book imo.

I like the sound of the strategy.

It really is a great clever novel.
Crime solving through the eyes of a prosecutor that's also an accomplished hold 'em player and draws on his poker knowledge.
    Great book.

I was hoping for a lot of pictures….especially on the chapter with the side woman on the road.

My dad didn't do much for me. He was a rounder and a gambler. He told me, "Winners Go to Dinner" Get up and go when the cards fall your way. Not a hit and run. Just take the win. Loved the book. Good lessons for young gamblers that haven't got the message. You wake up 2mrw and have a line up of games and card rooms still waiting for ya to enjoy. Just be patient and strike when ya got it!!
