    World Series Day1a

Did anyone see this last night? There was one hand in particular I thought Salas misplayed.

    Blinds were 3/5/5 bb ante

He had 65kish. White side (white something was his name) and Doyle were the blinds. Both loose bad players. Both had him covered.

He raised ah9h to 1100. The white guy calls with q10 sb. Doyle bb with j9. Neither guy suited. Definitely would have folded q10 sb. Anyways flop was QJ and a low heart. White checks, Doyle bets 1200, Salas calls(right move against these 2 in position I think, not a raise) white calls. Turn another low card, but puts a second diamond up. White and Doyle check. Salas bets 5700 into 7400. White calls other guy folds. River ace diamond. White bets 18700 into Salas who of course folds the best hand.

I really thought this was a bad turn bet by Salas, who made the final table 2 years ago. These guys are both wild players with a lot of chips, the bet was unlikely to get through against them. Not sure what white was doing on the river but he did have the 10 of diamonds which blocked the straight and flush. Salas takes the free card and improves, he’s likely to get value on the river against at least one guy. Instead the pot was bloated, and he got big stack bullied.

    Anyone see this hand?

Ambitious call on flop imo but pot odds and position, if half+ pot bet by SB/BB I would fold. Yeah you turn more equity almost always but still. Turn bet is awful QJ hits SB/BB calling range SO much and are unlikely to get them off on turn. Raiser has all the Aces and Kings. River likely plays differently agreed with checked through turn.

One element you must consider for the main event though is A LOT of scared money. A lot of people taking "that shot" at the big one, underrolled or a casual rec player. Controlled aggression will get you paid in the main event. That is why it is claimed to be the softest 10k.

I agree with everything you said. Definitely the softest of 10k buyin possible, with shot taking, sats, etc. I told my wife you get 7000 people and 6000 or 6500 of them dont belong there. A normal 10k you get like 300 and maybe 20 or 30 that dont belong.

I do think this White guy and Doyle didnt seem to grasp that this was a marathon event from how they were playing. You cant win on day 1 as they say but you can lose. Doyle played a hand earlier against Alex Keating where he flatted a jj low card flop with 89 (nothing at all) then a 10 turned he raised Keatings bet, and river was a queen and he got check called by Keatings kj. White had a hand where he opened for 2000 on the button at 300 500 blinds with Ace2 offsuit. Against guys like this just sit there and wait for them to blow up when you have something with 2 hour levels.

Georgii Belianin Disqualified From WSOP Main Event for Stealing Chips

in a strange turn of events, a player has been disqualified for stealing a player’s entire stack as he scooped in a won pot. Georgii Belianin, from Russia, found himself been escorted to the door by security after less than an hour’s play on entry flight Day 1c.

It was reported that Belianin had won a small pot and when reaching out to claim the chips he put his arm around the player to his left’s stack and collected that too. It was alleged by witnesses that he did this with a smile on his face, maybe insinuating that it was supposed to be a joke.

As it was, Belianin didn’t get a chance to see anybody laughing because almost straight away World Series of Poker Vice President Jack Effel arrived on the scene. Belianin was then escorted out of the tournament playing area by Effel and then handed over to security.
