I am looking at the lobby filled with the weekend tournaments. Blind levels down to 7 minutes. Very nice.
One of the tournaments has 2000 starting chip stack. The other two have the regular 1500 starting chip stack. Not as nice?
Can we please get at least one tournament with 1000 starting chips tomorrow, SBR Drew? This new LIGHTNING promo should be all about speed and getting chips in early and often. Similar to chess vs speed chess.
Since chip stack size is something the software handles easily, could we at least give this a try before the promo begins? People may like 1000 chips. I know I would!

Somebody beat my AJ with A9 tonight because they donked a 9 on the river! I followed them from the rail all the way to victory lane posting about the donk!
LOL: "If you hadn't donked a three-out 9 on me then you'd have been out an hour ago!"
Then he won the whole tournament!
Of course, he donked about 8 more times in order to win 1st place!!
But nobody is either "terrible" or "not terrible" when they donk from behind!
ESPECIALLY in this SBR donk software!

Sure, I could play my normal routine (as I've stated before, I've never not qualified for an sbr promo tourney, even the absolute brutal world cup), but I also have to run really well for just 20 tourneys.
I'm going to see what it's like to be a crazy donk and if it works, it works.

No, don't change it. 1500 is fine. Changing it to 1000 is going to make in an all in fest from the get go, plus it takes out the element of being able to bluff. That isn't poker, not having enough chips to make a play at a pot you shouldn't be in only to win it. And I think with only 1000 starting chips, it takes out that very important strategy.
Sadly some guys on would be game for this.

Some may disagree, but I think going down to 1000 might actually be a fine idea. Let's face it, given it's a month only, the format for qualifying is already very high variance so making it a bit more so may not have a huge overall impact.
And simple fact is: one of the things that really discourages people from playing in the dailies is that in order to cash in them, you pretty much always have to spend at least an hour - more time than many want to spend on a daily basis. No question that lowering the starting stack to 1000 would make the tournaments be shorter which might encourage more people to play, even though it would make the tourneys more luck based.
As always, there are pros and cons, but I would not be opposed to trying that idea. As usual, in the long-term general results won't change much, and the idea of having to spend less time per day on the dailies on average does seem rather attractive in many ways!

Really no point to change it if there is no strategy to overall fix the structure.
1000 would be great. I'm still unlikely to be able to play enough to qualify.

6-handed tables would be aaaawesome. 9/10-handed is a goddamn antiquated poker format that just encourages not playing hands

Wowzers! Not sure I think this is a great change or anything, but I definitely think changing it up in general is a good policy - keeps it more fresh! And this definitely seems like a change worth trying whether it becomes standard/permanent or not. As they say, you never know until you try!
6 max is best change yet. The nits will get punished even further now.

Hell yeah! Hopefully most will agree this is a positive change, but either way a month-long event is a good time to mix it up
Another change that might want to be considered with this Drew: changing the payouts so that Top 6 get paid rather than Top 8 - naturally goes along well with the theme of having six max tables, that way only the final table gets paid. Of course not suggesting you lower the total payout per tournament, just that it be reworked so that only Top 6 get paid rather than Top 8. Say something like:
300-175-125-85-65-50
I personally like something of that sort better either way, more like "regular" tournaments in terms of the % who get paid out, and having 20/25 point rollovers isn't particularly fun anyway, makes you have to buyin short to pretty much any cash table if you want to roll it over. Minimum 50 payout seems better, at least to me!
