    Would a 1k tournament once a month work

    Maybe last Sunday of the month during NFL. Lots of guys should have points from football contests.

    This would be the time of year to get it started with some extra points flying around.

    I do think you would need something that lasts about 2.5/3 hours.

    something like 150-200 bb to start (3K chips at 10/20?) and a starting stack with 10bb after an hour or 90 minutes.
