Yeah it has sounded like a sad situation with Nicky. Can be a hard adjustment when you are you use to having money to risk and it's not there anymore. Even more hard having second chances when you get called out by this many reputable players on Twitter. The exchanges there reminded me of all the old drama on EOG when stiffs would be called out.

People who seem very trustworthy, well you loan to them and they lose it all doing whatever (casino, bet, who knows), and then as honorable as their intentions might have been, it's far easier for them to disappear from the site and either create a ghost account or just not come back at all. Once again very bad risk/reward ratio, just like people who try to disappear/avoid you irl when faced with same thing.

Especially when you say you have to like the people you stake - too many times when you stake/loan someone you like, a friend, the friendship winds up ruined over it. Money ruins friendships all too often. And once people know you are generous they are unfortunately more apt to try to take advantage of your generosity if it suits them. So again, I personally like the policy of just saying "no I don't loan or stake anyone - personal rule" By doing it universally, they have no basis to be offended, and you don't get stuck in these awkward situations...

Just my opinion though! Having been involved/seen so many of these situations over the years though, certainly seems like a much safer policy than most others for sure!
All well said here Arun! Yes I can think back to when Betpoints first started here and the loans that quickly followed. I had one of the bigger balances for a while and would get PM'd all the time asking.

Ron Dalgo was taking advantage of me like you are saying. When I sent money once, he kept wanting more. He even tried asking for more stake money after admitting what I already sent was gone. No different from what a Nigerian scammer on the internet would do.

Unfortunately, Dalgo's county does not think of what he's done as a crime and also went light on him in payment plan rulings. He's even stiffed them for several years of unpaid property taxes and water bills. But they keep sticking up for him and going way too easy.

Thought I'd share some of Ron Dalgo's "greatest hits" along the way for a few more laughs...

    February 2017...
"Listen I'm gonna make this right don't know why I screwed up..."
"I'm working on it sorry for delay I will get your money back..."
    "I know I ****** up a good thing...I'm gonna fix it"
"You don't have to take legal action...I got my self in a bind"
"I know it would be hard to trust me but mabey u can let me play my way outta this hole..."
"Very sorry I lost a great opportunity u will get your money back just made a bad decision..."

    March 2017...
"I haven't got your funds yet but I got over my head..."
"I'm not intending on not paying u will get your money and sorry once again..."

    June 2017...
"I attend on paying u...I can gaureentee u 1 thing I will pay u back no matter what..."
"I had no intention of screwing you over...I would never intentionally **** that up..."

Yup, that's too often what I've seen make things balloon. In similar such situations, people often ask "why did you keep loaning them $/staking them if they didn't pay you back". That's what happens, you do so, in the hope that they might hit it big and then you get everything back. But obviously way more often than not, they won't do so and the debt becomes even bigger - what started say as a $1000 loan/stake somehow becomes $10,000 (random example), and people on the outside don't understand why. But it's somewhat understandable that you think it might be the only way to get your original loan back. But as I said, probably way more likely it turns even more sour.

As I've been saying loaning/staking, bleh - definitely not for me!

Would have no effect on a guy like Ron and he's had his chances. Has his head very far up his ass and could care less about what anyone thinks. He has other judgments against him and stiffed his county out of property tax and water bills for three years. A deadbeet across the board.

Haha, nope I wouldn't. I had my own bad experiences with such things (much lower level $-wise and not in poker) - loaned stuff to a few people cause I knew them and then got burned. People are too quick to take advantage of someone when they see/hear about generosity. And it sucked, not because of what I lost out on (it was pretty small), but because it made me realize that someone who I thought was a friend was really not a friend at all.

Some people would probably say it was a good thing - small price to pay to realize what kind of person someone truly is. But it certainly stung when it happened even if it was good to know for the long-term.

But this also just made me adopt the policy of not loaning/staking any friend in almost anything ever - just seems like there is way more risk than reward involved so why do it?

I've had makeup deals with a few players and they have all held their own through the swings. Some dip down in makeup but will have a hit to get them back up and such.

What happened here though was way different. Ron did not even enter the events with the fronted stake money. Just blew all of it on his own and asked for that to be part of his makeup. It's basically a Nigerian scam at that point. Even if he ever won money would someone like this ever pay it?

The freeroll we have at the SBR Bash is always a good time. Levels are quick but it gives some bragging rights for a while.

No sign of Ron in the Day 3 list so the mush must have set in. Still other events this week though.
