I agree a $40 post flop bet into a $7 pot seems like overkill but this table in particular it was a standard line. I had been at the table for less than an hour but the 20-25 or so orbits I saw the average post flop bet was anywhere from $30-$40. Half the table was sitting fairly deep ($600+) and most were young guys.
Looking back at the J/9 hand it probably wouldnt have been a bad idea for me to open w/ J/9 suited on the btn into a limped pot. Most likely would have saved me $$$.
With the $50 turn bet on the K/Q hand I honestly expected him to just fold. Im holding blockers against AK/AQ so i put him on a draw. Maybe 10/J or AJ. Once the blank 6 hit the turn I figured he'd give up. Once I flopped top 2 I was jamming regardless after the j/9 debacle
