SBR Poker Survey: How many hours a week do you devote to it and why?

I'm just curious. I finally replaced my old dead computer recently, so only now am I finally in there regularly. I'm enjoying the daily tourneys, but I see that it takes up a nice chunk of time, so it got me wondering what everyone who's in there is in it for...

First of all, it's pretty much about the tourneys, right? I never see anyone playing the "cash" games, unless I keep looking at the wrong times.

So if you're in there most days and spending (usually) at least an hour in a tourney, why do you do it?

Is it for the poker points? This wouldn't make sense to me since no one is ever playing regular poker.

Is it about the badges? is it about qualifying for the World Cup? Is it just the rush of competition? Is it the challenge of improving your game? Are you just killing time?

No judging at all here, simply my curiosity.

For me, I can tell you that it is the fun challenge of trying to get as many cashes as I can to try to break onto the World Cup team. But I wonder if I'm the minority and I'm missing why everyone else is in there...

    Thanks, Gents!

    Depends on the contest.

I don't play now because I don't care much for world cup

Started playing again for the world cup, but it's pointless cause I don't remember/care often enough to qualify.

Just do it now for drunken entertainment.

You eventually have to play cash games to convert the poker points. There should really be a couple set times during the day when people play, cause it really is a crap shoot finding a game.

3-4 x's a week for the tourneys. Time spent of course depends on how long I stay in. I will play the cash games when there are points to roll so a minimum of 30-40 minutes for that. (Don't want to be the hit and run guy)

Don't think playing just for the contest is worth the possible payout. Even if u get lucky and won it all. It's 4 months

The entertainment value received from slow rolling chumps such as: Tripe, POS69, JayVegas, etc..., is priceless.

Yeah. There's no value at all in it unless you have absolutely nothing else to do and enjoy it.

Play in one of the daily tourneys each day of the week and then a couple times a week I will sit at a cash table when there is a good size table going. Many of those times are to complete rollovers. Will play some h/l on the weekends while watching basketball games at night. Its just a nice way of gathering extra points and I like playing cards.

I still haven't mostly been told *why* folks put their time into the tourneys... Is it just for love of poker and competition and bragging rights, or is it to try and win the points?? Some people did mention wanting to win points, but the fact is, then why do I never see any cash games in there? That's what made me wonder if anyone really cares about the points part and just likes the other elements of it.

Pizza, capy. Guys play here for shitty free pizza for the most part.

I played a few of them last week. Got bored after the 2nd one.

Sbr ring games at night used to be a blast. Was a core group of 7-10 guys always around. Great banter. Those days mostly dead unfortunately.

Yup, it was hoppin around winter 2012/2013 I think? Hasn't really been the same since

I play tourneys when I've got the time to multitask these days, mainly to make the work I'm doing a little less tedious by playing some mindless poker. Cash games are slightly more entertaining, but don't play as often due to not being able to multitask as well while doing it.

Most aren't in it for the points alone, which only makes sense; for all but a few posters, their time is more valuable than the points they could win. Killing time, combined with potential contest winnings and a dash of pizzas is probably the main reason for most.

Probably not looking at the right times. Every night of the week theres people at tables, usually from around 7-8 to 11-mn, eastern US time.

Other times is hit or miss, but weekends are more busy overall.

Tournament wise, probably 3 hours or so a week. I sit out the first 30 minutes of each tournament so I'm usually only playing for an hour at a maximum.

Ring tables I'll play if I'm bored. Sometimes I'll spend 4-5 hours on them in a week, other times I'll go 3 weeks without sitting at one.

Why do I play? Because it's easy points. I'm fine with cashing out $500 in Amazon GC's in points, or other GC's and converting to cash. Can easily make large purchases via Amazon via points. Hell, could get something like a used car for $4000 with about 100k in points. Not a bad deal for free poker.

As for if this contest is worth it? Kind of a poor payout for how long it takes, especially since only 1st is guaranteed points. However, I just play daily for the rollover points anyway. If I do well in the contest as a result then so be it.

    Thanks for your thoughts, everyone!

It sounds like most people do value the poker points, so I guess people do play at the cash game tables, I just have to catch it at the right time. So that's cool, I'm sure I'll try rolling over some of my points at some point.

Ya, I try to play all of the daily tourneys so the length of time depends on how bad and unlucky I am... :-) When I am home and have time, I try to play the ring tables, there is usually a full table on most nights.

SBR poker slowed down when poster theCentaur stopped playing. Talk about an easy couple k once you tilted him. Good ol days of poker points baller badges.

A few guys are still as generous I guess but seems like a case of "no money in SBR Poker, everyones solid" most days

I started back in the fall after not playing much for a year or two, and I have been playing 4-5 daily's a week. I love the competition. In online poker's heyday 10 years ago, played lots of Omaha tournaments and NL satellites for the bigger events. This isn't quite the same, but I still really enjoy competing and the decision making process. The points are an added bonus, if you're not playing for something, the play gets too loose and ragged and it is more difficult to put an opponent on a hand.

I play everyday. Sometimes I'll miss one but that's normal, I'd assume. Usually play while I'm shopping lined and putting in the day's bets. Everyone only plays for points and promos.

I think there's a few contributing factors to why cash tables are slow. People dont want to spend 1.5 hours earning 150 points and then lose it in 20 minutes at ring games. Maybe burned out from playing all week? Some prefer to gamble them in the Sportsbook or casino(me) instead.

Best chance is Omaha Hi/Lo on weekends. Nice break from Holdem so usually people around.

I follow the logic of not feeling like losing them, but the problem is they don't exist until you roll them over x3 in the ring games... thus I'd think there'd be more ring games going on so folks can try and roll their points over and then have them to use for other stuff...

We had a fun game for a while last night actually... Biter, Daggles, 4K, and few others.

I need to try the Omaha Hi/Lo, haven't played any Hi/Lo in ages.

I play an average of twice a week. Usually while watching TV. I play loose as I don't give a fukk unless I make the final table. Then I concentrate a little more. And by concentrate, I mean pick my spots for my all ins as that's all the final table is about....usually all in or fold.

The only time you see cash games is right after the tourneys as guys are trying to roll over the poker points so they can use them. These games are loose as fukk.
