I have been building it since 2007, and I still have money there. I started with freerolls and then play some 1 2 in the local casino
but with a lot of ups and downs.
After many years paying and not moving forward as much as I want,I believe that tournaments and SNG are the way to do it.
In my case this year I ll only play tournaments and SNG,and try to stay away from ring games and PLO .

Sin I am sure that you play at more than one online poker site. Which one is your favorite though? Or which one would be good for me keep in mind that I am a novice I have only been playing seriously for about two years. Read a couple books but don't have everything down.

Mixed ring games for me was the best way to build and maintain a bankroll. When FTP was flying, their mixed game tables were pretty soft. It's hard to find a player that is good at all the games, so exploiting those players that were weak in certain disciplines was highly profitable. I remember following a player around for a week that played 7card stud. He was terrible, and I made almost 2 grand off him in that time.

Make good money in rings games and then take shots at the tournaments seemed to work for me.

It would have been fun to play Beerdog during those days, and maybe I'll get the chance when/if poker comes back to the US. GL at Bovada. I don't play tournaments their very often; I mostly play 7 stud and 7 hi/low. I will hit the PLO games once in awhile.

33% of it you should invest in baccarat games

33% more you should loan to Carseller as a stake

33% of the rest you should tail SBR Staff's locks of the century and coming out of retirement picks

the other 1% save for fun just in case you bust.

Well first thing you need to ask yourself is what is your goal? Are you playing for shits and giggles? Do you want to do this as your means? Side-job? Do you just want to take a shot? Do you have a real job? Can your bankroll be increased via poker and your real job? If you go busto can you reload after a while or is it game over?

2nd thing is kind of obvious. What are you good at? If you've devoted your poker career to NL holdem SNG's you wouldn't want to start hammering out volume pot limit omaha ring games without expecting to take some bumps.

Long term my only success has been with live 1-2 NL ring tables. Online, I enjoy playing HORSE tourneys and PLO8 tourneys the most but the volume has never been enough to gauge success.

Just as in sportsbetting it is hard to beat the juice. Poker is tough to beat the juice, a live game juicebeing even higher than online. I am sure more people would be winners if they did not have to beat the house payout for providing us the opportunity to gamble. I make more on tourneys, then ring games, then SNG's.
Omaha hi/lo is my preferred ring game to money.

Run your own games and take in the rake ! A sure winner, especially Blk Jk. and five card stud. Quick games fast turnover, easy money ! :O)

I would always grind on the Sit N Goes and take my shots at MTTs. Not much of a ring game player.

Question for all you guys, doesn't have to do anything with bankroll but this is probably the only thread getting views right now. I have been thinking about having poker tournies and cash games at my house. There will be a dealer, beer/booze and possibly a blackjack table. first off what do I charge for a rake? because I will have to pay dealers and beer food etc. Secondly there will be 10-12 people. I would do 2 tournaments at 100 buy in(prizes) TBD, what do you think I need money wise to back this night?

Are you looking to break-even or to make money?

If you're looking to break-even, you can charge people by the hour to sit in the cash games. I've been in games like that back in the day when someone brought in a dealer.

Once you go down that road, it's tough to get your house back. You start running cash games at your place and someone gets stuck, it's not like you can break it whenever you feel like it. Fukkin thing will be running around the clock and no telling the riff raff youll have running around in your house.

Gummo- how much would you charge for seat. I am trying to make money of people needing to borrow money with vig, not from game

    Sin- Sorry misunderstood

Blazer- it would be held at an apartment that I take care of. I take care of the whole complex

Peaks and valleys here Sin. I'll do really good in tournament games and then get felted on bullshit ring games. Same thing in live and at other sites. It's either good in one format and terrible in another. The cards never seems to transfer over, especially online. I've all but given up ring games online, because of terrible suck outs and guys hitt'in one out rivers all the damn time. Guess I'll stick with tourneys and try to build it up that way. Good luck guys.

I also built brs off of freerolls...the key step for me was low level limit money tables while building below $100...dont have the patience to do those anymore.
