All because it costs $1000 doesn't mean it isn't incredibly lame. But I don't want to have a discussion with someone who finds a members' point balance to be an indication of their intelligence. Clown.

    160 x 10 buyin = 1600... 3rd place prize worth over 1600 is not lame..

I wouldn't have spent 10 hours playing for a 3rd place prize like the one mentioned BUT if the original poster knew what the prize pool was and didn't mind ending up with it then I think it needs to be considered a nice score for him/her.

But he does mind. He's trying to sell it because he knows it's nonsense.

wanna show where u got 100 from ? if it's not remotely close to 100 then you are the "clown" who is talking stupid about a 3rd place prize of a 10$ 160-er. a normal 3rd place prize would be ~200 so theres no reason to cause a fuss about this unless u know for a fact its worth way less. and from the way you talk, u dont.

Common sense says it's worth nowhere close to what he thinks. Just do the math from the buyins. It cost Pokerstars probably nothing.

in the end it was a 80 - 1 payout far from being lame

edit, im assuming it was a rebuy so with your investment it was closer to 7 - 1, even so its a good pay day!

I would've taken the lesson. A lesson from a top top shelf professional is worth it weight.

sorry keyboading but if you actually believe you know it all than its obvious you still have a lot more still to learn

I know if you add up the buy ins the prizes are worth too much, meaning they are overpriced. Pretty common marketing move. You kids will learn how the world works one day.

What, wsop academy is over priced? is that what you are saying? Not really sure. Its $1899 to sign up there. We dont know how many people entered the tournament or what the prize pool was. But from my experience with pokerstars is that they dont pocket the difference. The partial amounts are given to the next place down.

So how is a $10 buy-in tournament a bad deal for a shot at a $1899 prize? I do not understand your logic unless you are saying that $1899 is to much for the academy which is a completely different debate.

Sure we do. Pay more attention if you're going to enter a discussion, otherwise you look like a fukk.

I concede, but what is with the hostility? Usually hostility is a result of someone whose back is against the wall and doesn't know how to get out of it.

Anyway, I misread it as he invested $160 as opposed to 160 people. Which proves our point even more. The prize pool was at least $5700. (3 places got the entrance fee into the academy, maybe even more) That is a huge overlay. Granted the entrance fees were probably donated by wsop academy but the result is the same. If getting into the academy was a goal. Its great value.

My guess is that you do not understand what an overlay is or else you wouldn't be defending your point with such childish remarks

I must add this, if he sold his entrance fee for $800. That alone is 50% of the actual prize pool (160 x $10) for third place. I really would like to see how you can explain how this as being lame.

160 people bought in for $10 each. Overlays for cash prizes are a lot different than what he got, which is why I think it's bullshit. Anyway, I don't really care. My back isn't against the wall, I'm hostile because it's naive to think the prize isn't bullshit. Good for him he got $800 for it though.

Did you go to school? Do you have a profession? Do you think its naive for professionals in any discipline to get to education to further their career? How is that any different with poker? Are you saying you are such a poker stud that there is nothing more for you to learn?

To master poker takes years of learning and practice. Poker is not a game of cards. When you go to the academy, will not be learning Skylansky's hand values and poker theorys. It will be already assumed you know all the advanced concepts. You can learn this with a book and a weekend. You will be learning the Psych game, which is what poker truly is. Poker is not a card game. It isnt about the best hand winning. Its far more dynamic and complex than that.

This is a very hard concept to fully master. Phil Ivey himself said he is still learning how to play poker everyday. So how is getting a top shelf education by proven professionals in a field you want to excel in lame and naive especially for $10?

well its clear as to who doesn't get it. You havent proven your point whatsoever other than saying its naive, lame or you "dont get it". Get what? I explained my point of view. Ive been in this business for 20 years. I know exactly what Im talking about. Prove to me othertwise. You didnt answer a single question I asked nor even addressed any of the concepts I listed.

You are refering to me as a kid. I find that funny since Im in my forties. Ive been a fixture here at the Commerce Casino in So Cal for 20 years. I have played with the best of them in my time. So lets debate poker knowledge shall we. Lets start be simply proving your point.

I'm going to go out on the limb here and say a guy who enrolls in a $10 tournament doesn't really care to learn theories, which is why he sold an extremely overvalued charity prize.

I have proof on my side, you're talking about nonsense.

    1. He doesnt care: you are right, he may not care as he sold it.n But he understood that there was value in the prize as being able to sell it for $800. This is common, I used sell my T$ when I used to play a lot online. T$ have no cash value but I would still be able to sell them. How is this any different?

    2. Overvalued charity prize: Please explian this one as this is the real question. He sold it for $800, which was 50% of the actual prize pool for third place. I dont know what else to say. Do the math. This is excellent value. How could you possibly say otherwise?

Or are you saying the wsop academy is overpriced? Is this it? I dont know, I cant read your mind. This could be debatable, but the going rate for a pro poker coach is $100 an hour. Is Wsop academy a scam and therefore worthless? You better provide the evidence to claim this.

    3. Proof is on my side? What proof, you havent said anything tangible

    4. What nonsense have I been saying?

    well there you go
