All those sites are crooked.....I know tons of inside people who were in on the scams ran by the site owners......Online poker will never be legit until the US government steps in and regulates it......Its just a money-stealing free-for-all for these sites until then.
it wont happen in his lifetime, but if phil did somehow get booted out of fulltilt and go on the worst run in history, people like Laliberte would be standing there with 10million ready to hand it over. as it is, phil could go and play any game at any stakes and win. dont kid yourselves. he is the best overall player breathing right now and to be honest, i dont see where you can improve on his game.
bobby, not that anyone is paying any attention to you, but your rumors are just stupid. you dont know inside people who are helping owners run scams. not even all the guys at UB knew what was happening. the software is the scam. its geared towards drawing action. the idiots at UB got greedy and were stupid. the bigger sites are watched like hawks now and they look even harder into players who go on winning streaks. you can be a great player and still lose. you saying you know this and that is just plain stupid of you and you are talking to yourself...just letting you know.
I hear different stories about Ivey and his large bets. A couple of years ago he lost 2 million on Lakers vs Celtics and supposedly a person close to him said he would be broke in a year or 2 if he kept it up making huge wagers. I would guess if he's part owner of FullTilt he would always be OK, but what if the government somehow gets them to shut down?
I think a lot of the well known pros have little or nothing, though. I'd bet Negreanu is near broke or was a short time ago. He was divorced after a brief marriage and had to sell his car on ebay at the time of his divorce which seemed to be unusual timing. Maybe their endorsements get him some money, but it may not be as much as people think. There's a reason why there are jokes like; How do you get a professional poker player off your porch? Pay him for the pizza. What do you call a professional poker player who breaks up with his girlfriend? Homeless.
Some of the responses in this thread are laughable. Some of you believe that there is no such thing as a professional poker player but yet you believe there are professional hanicappers? That alone makes 0 sense and is unbelievable to say the least. Do you ever wonder why you see so many familiar faces at large poker tournament final tables? That's not luck or just good runs people. That is about 85% skill with a little good luck mixed in.
I don't think poker is that interesting to Ivey anymore. He knows it inside out and can always fall back on it, no matter what. Once you've mastered something it gets kind of boring. Poker is his job.
Just because he's reached that point doesn't mean he no longer loves the rush. If he bets big on sports and craps it's because betting small doesn't give him a rush.
Ivey is too balanced to lose it all. He's into yoga. Not drugs. And he's got a job.

Haha. I totally agree here. I would have more concerns for the people on this forum than Phil Ivey. The past is littered with cautionary tales such as ** Hammer and Mike Tyson losing all their money. It happens but if they employ half decent management, today's big earners should have a fair bit put away as a nest egg or rainy day fund.

A: your ideas are ridiculous
B: He's a professional gambler, and I doubt that you are. So, if anything you should be looking to him to pick up gambling wisdom

What incentive do poker sites have to rig anything when poker is a game of natural high variance and all they have to do is sit there and let people pass money back and forth while collecting the vig? It does not seem worth the risk.

Wileout I agree with the timing cause all those guy say people didn't know how to play years ago. But there will always be fish, newbies, and guys playing out of their bank roll so the more the merrier. If their wasn't so many people playing do you these tournaments would pay out so much? duh
